After reading all the good reviews of this guide I just bought it based on them. I should have gone and had a look at the book first. While it did list all the attractions it did not tell you how to get to any of them. There was a map reference but I wanted to know which was the nearest metro/tube stop , which tram went there, which stop to get off at.Also the name of many attractions were only sign posted in Czech but the guide book only had them named in English so I couldn't match up the signs. Disappointed with book but not with Prague.

As usual an excellent publication Eyewitness.Very comprehensive coverage by area in alphabetical order. Maps clear an concise especially with the enlarged section which is useful for walking about especially as it has a fold over book mark. Found the two part maps of the Forum East/west difficult to use as you tend to visit it in one go. When you use the Palatine map unless you enter by there suggested entrance it is quite hard to relocate I would definately buy one but i linked mine with an OXford Archaeological Guide by Amanda Claridge. Ate at some of the retaurants in the guide they were reliable,checked off some of the hotels it suggested but contacted hotels own websites for better deals.

With this little book, every tourist will be able to make individual choices quickly and accurately. Text and pictures perfectly balanced, clear layout and descriptions - it leaves little to be desired. The only disadvantage of my holiday was that I did not have enough time to visit all the great places I had planned to see, but the book itself has no faults.

I went to Barcelona recently, and in the planning of the trip I consulted four guide books: Lonely Planet's Barcelona City Guide Dorling Kindersley Eyewitness Barcelona and Catalonia Cadogan Guides Barcelona (Dana Facaros and Michael Pauls) Time Out Barcelona All of them were good. I took two with me: Lonely Planet and Eyewitness. The reasons I chose those two: Eyewitness unfailingly has a good quality map, which in my view is LP's downfall. Eyewitness always includes a Street Finder Index which LP does not, and LP often misses out on streets other than the major ones, which can be very frustrating, especially in a city like Barca where there are many alleyways. I went to Madeira for 3 days and took this guide and I'm glad I did it. It focus more on Funchal but with so litle time its ideal to plane the days and not waste one second of time. It also makes a great quick reference to the hit points like top 10 local dishes, top 10 gardens, top 10 beaches, top 10 warnings etc. It has great info about all the best places and I found the bus information the most usefull for people like me, who wanted to save money but enjoy the trip at the same time. It has lots of pictures of what to expect, usefull information about the island, info on prices, small maps and the best locations and monuments: the very best top 10 of places you just have to visit while in Madeira, places like The Catedral ... I browed the 2003 edition of this book from my local library and thought that is was good. I liked the layout (still do) thought that it had a lot of useful information mixed in with pictures. So when a 2008 edition came out I though great I will have the most up to date information with some added pictures. Or so I thought when I got the book I found that it is nearly identical to the 2003 one. There is only one extra page of information in the history. Flicking though the remainder of the pages I found that they are all the same, same pictures, some of the maps have been re coloured, and most of the text is identical too. The only thing I could see that was different is the back part that had a longer list of places to stay and eat. So all in all I ... Read More:

Invaluable, had information even the locals we were staying with didn't know: and was so good they asked if they could have it after we left Istanbul. Didn't leave my side the whole time. Isaw this thing in the hands of so many tourists in several different languages, especially on the Bosphorus trip. The maps were very useful for us and so should be for most, provided you know how to read a map. Forget contact lenses and emergency money; if you only bring one thing with you make it this travel guide.

Loved this book - it contains neat sections of the top 10 of just about everything to do in Madrid. Includes places to eat, drink, sights to see, places to visit etc etc. We certainly saw more of the city in 5 days than we would ever have done if we hadn't bought the book and it was quite satisfying to get back to the hotel and tick off all the places we'd been! The reviews were very brief but very accurate so we felt quite confident exploring on our own.
