If you're ordained in the C of E, you already own this book. If you're about to get ordained into the C of E, you're about to own this book.
What's in it?
Well, the bits you will use the most are the Marriage service and the Funeral service.
The versions are given in full here including the alternatives: traditional language vs modern language (e.g. key difference in preface to marriage: "sexual union" vs "bodily union" in traditional language, and all that kind of thing)

They also print out likely scripture passages for funerals and weddings, which is useful.

As for the rest of the book, well, what you might not expect are quite a lot on healing services. This is useful, and practical and there's ... Read More:

Have read this book many times - it's great, fantastic.
I have read many books about Anne Boleyn and this was read years ago.
I don't know whether Ann was guilty of what Henry accused her, but I tend to think most of the charges were trumped up by Cromwell at Henry's instigation because he wanted to be rid of her.
This book is a novel but it does give a perspective on Anne that makes you wonder.
It's well written, highly readable - so read it. I'm sure you'll love it.

Although it has its moments, it has alot of superflous dialogue and can be quite difficult for children to understand at times. It is also quite racist in how it describes particular people, which although obviously acceptable (from a publishers point - not mine)when it was first printed, it is not now, and I was quite disappointed that an author of this calibre felt the need to use such words. Could be a lovely, adventurous story in half the words!

So good I read it twice. Contrary to the previous reviewer's opinion on the 'present tense' style of writing, I find that it works extremely well with this book and serves to carry the reader along on the journey with Paul. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to anyone interested in the canla system, narrowboats or travel in general.

This is definitely the best of the Peak district walking books. Firstly the large scale map indicates where in the Peak District the walk begins; useful for choosing walks close to your location. The books give useful background on the geology or history of the walk you are undertaking. The walks are interesting and scenic and cover a large range of walking ability. All walks are clearly colour coded in three ranges of difficulty to make choosing your challenge easy. The maps of the walks are clear and in colour. Most importantly the descriptions are clear and match the terrain so the ususal confusion of," Which way now?" is avoided. However a compass, whistle, correct clothing and informing someone of your intended route are a must for everyone.

Certainly a candidate for it. Hill's monumental work is probably the definitive work of the British Marxist Historians group of scholars who appeared in the immediate after of World War II. It featured such lumanaries as E.P. Thompson and Rodney Hilton and basically invented Social History through its study of what became known as 'History from Below'.
Thompson's 'The Making of the English Working Class' is the most famous publication of the group, but 'World turned Upside Down' is, in the humble opinion of this author, the best.

It expands on Hill's thesis about the two revolutions that took place in England at the time of the Civil War. Focussing on the second, democratic, revolution, that ultimately failed; Hill examines some of the ... Read More:

A book full of gentle humour with a very English feel to it. The author bikes from Dorset to Berwick upon Tweed and his struggles with daily mileage, the English weather along the way but best of all are his descriptions of encounters with people, towns and signposts along the way. The history is written with a nostalgic tinge. If you enjoy Bill Bryson type observations you'll probably like this book.
