A very funny, and fascinating story of three men crossing England in an electric milk float. I loved the radio 4 programme about their trip but having read the book it seems that barely scratched the surface of their month-long journey. A top read.

This book has really helped me to get an idea about what the differences are between solicitors and barristers, the costs and process of becoming a barrister and also what Junior Barristers do on a day to day basis. There is a fasinating section of "a week in the life" stories from a variety of different diciplines which I found very helpful.

Kramers book is honest with the difficulties faced in ultimately getting a tenancy but there is an underlying optimism about the profession, acknowledging the competition but stating happily that the cream will float to the top. A reassuring concept for an non oxbridge graduate like myself.

A practical, helpful guide and reference.

This book confirms that what is happening NOW is not new. Adultery - prostitution is as old as time.
Only the names have changed.
A look at today through the eyes of the past proves that people have always lied - cheated - commited adultery and gone behind the backs of their partners.
This book is PROOF that you always HURT the one you love - and that you didnt realise what you HAD until you LOST it.
A heavy read but with a message we could all learn from.
It educates and entertains...

A newspaper and magazine journalist for over 25 years, Stephen Booth was born in the English Pennine mill town of Burnley. He was brought up on the coast at Blackpool. Stephen gave up journalism in 2001 to write crime novels full time.

Withens is a small village in the Peak District and like many other small town and villages it is troubled by theft and vandalism, but Withens problems stem from mainly one local family, the Oxleys, a family from hell. Now the village is the focus of a murder investigation. A young man's body has been discovered out on the cold and desolate moors nearby and the man is a member of the family from hell, he is an Oxley.

Police are also trying to solve the mystery of a young girl who ... Read More:

We need to be able (hopefully) to educate and tell others about the dangers of people like this. The public and parents need to be on the offensive and make sure that this type of crime cannot be put into action again. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and the narrator, looking back over the time he spent in Soham, can piece together the timeline from witness accounts and his own views. He indeed spent time and asked questions of Huntley and Carr, noting as other journalists did that something wasn't 'quite right'.

I didn't follow the story that carefully at the time in August 2002, just snippetts so it was made more clear to me by reading the tale from the time of the abduction to the trial.

A neat work which tells a story people ... Read More:

Roy Porter, who died at the early age of 55, wrote this wonderful history and in many ways it is his memorial. It is comprehensive in its range, provides minute and often colourful details by way of illustration and examples of matters raised, and above all demonstrates an intimate and loving knowledge of the period. Moreover the book is both stylish and witty. A pleasure to read.
