I was so disappointed with this book, somehow to me it just doesnt ring true that this was written by a middle aged woman in war time, I would be interested how much of the authors slant was put on the originals diaries, everything is very much glossed over and the fact that in the introduction the author states that most of the original diaries are now unavailable, left me wondering... If you want a thoroughly good read of war time diaries look no further than the three books by Simon Garfield based on the Mass Observation Probject, they are absolutely superb and I think that is what has left me wanting more in this publication, oh well!

This is a great book, with some fabulous walks lovingly described. Frank Duerden clearly loves the Lakes and loves walking. He has drawn very clear maps and provided good route decriptions - though an OS map is still useful. The book may look a little drab, but the walks are anything but drab!

Good plot, excellent prose, funny and scarey. I have read most of the Docter Who books and this is one of the best for portraying the Doctor an Martha as they are on TV. The Doctor is jokey & genuinely funny, at the same time thoughtful & eccentric as ever. Martha is nice & sincere. This book is definately One of our favourites.Mark Morris is one of the best Doctor Who writers to date.
