I must admit I was seduced by the wonderful cover photo of Mont-Saint-Michel, and the title which suggests a romantic travel book, where the local peculiarities are grounded in the authors knowledge of local history - something like a H.V.Morton's Traveller in Italy for today (and for France). What you actually get is a social history of the provincial French peasantry from 1780 to 1880. I now find out that the American edition has a sub-title very like this, but not a sign of it on my copy, or on Amazon-UK. However, it is well written and so not as dull as that sounds, in fact it is good to read, and interesting in a rather vague way - paints pictures rather then pushing a thesis. This book has been really helpful in getting us started and motivated. Lots of practical and sensible advice for a busy first time allotment family.

First off,a confession.I am a little bit biased towards Rosemary Conley as I find her absolutely gorgeous for a woman of 60.Just look at the photo on the front cover.She looks incredible.She alone is the best advert for this book and surely the most stunning OAP around. This book is extremely helpful and a must buy with many excellent and easy to follow tips.If it can make you look as fabulous as the lovely Rosemary it will be money very well spent.It really is a great bargain and a must have.Yes,I am a fan but she is a very real example of what can be achieved by following her methods.

A lot of good has been said about this book by previous reviewers, so I'll only agree with those glowing remarks and add one warning to owners of other Body Control Pilates books -- this book just cuts and pastes entire paragraphs and pages of info from the first book "Body Control" and "The Pilates Prescription for Back Pain" (which is just another title for the "Body Control Back Book"). Basically, Body Control are putting out the same (really great!) book with only a few updates and changes here and there (newer studies on engaging the pelvic floor before scooping & hollowing has replaced the old navel-to-spine only advice, for instance) -- and a lot better photographs and graphics. Having read the first instalment of the mac carrick brothers and absolutly loved it i wondered if "if you desire" would be as good as the first, well i need not have worried it was fab. The story tells of Hugh,and jane, she being the love that must not be, but for the last ten years has been in every thought and memory, she was a tease,but secretly loved hugh. I've had this book (the older edition) for almost 10 years now and I'm still using it. The recipes always work perfectly, the short little stories over each recipe are fun to read and I've never made any soup from this or the other two books without people asking for second, third and in one case even fourth helpings (and most of the time the soup was supposed to be the starter!). Normally, I make at least double the quantities because of that. Can you say more to show just how yummy the recipes are? This definitely is a book I couln't live without. Everybody should have it!

Although this is worth a listen for diehard Conchord fans, I wouldn't recommend it for anyone else. A big part of the appeal of their HBO show, as well as the concert clips I've seen, is the contrast between Bret and Jemaine's dead-pan "normal" personalities, and their exuberant and fanciful songs. Since a radio show obviously has no visual component, you'd at least expect performances of the songs to be front and center, but it's not the case. The songs are rarely if ever presented complete and uninterrupted, often stepped on by Rob Brydon's otherwise decent narration, or faded out and talked over by other characters, or cut such that the entire song never appears in the show. I already had several of Delia's books, and I didn't really think I needed another. I received this book as a gift at christmas, and like many of the other reviewers have already said, it really is fantastic. Her recipes are as always easy and simple to follow, written in such a way that inspires, even the most novice of cooks.

I bought all 4 books from this collection, they are perfect for youngsters. The pages are thick card, so not so easy to rip, bend or mutilate!!! Any drool is easily wiped clean too :o) Good little bedtime story books, with nice story, good colours & plenty of familiar faces from the TV progrm. Highly recommended.

Although the book is called "What Sport Tells Us About Life", it might, equally, have been called "What Life Tells Us About Sport", since Smith takes philosophy, sociology, history, statistics, political science, economics, psychology and more besides and uses them to analyse sporting situations. Or, to look at it another way, he uses sporting situations to illustrate "real world" concepts. So, although this will be classed as a "sports book", one doesn't need to be a sportsman to enjoy it and it would sit better with the popular non-fiction books.
