Tedious, ramshackle and utterly utterly self indulgent. I bought this book when I heard she had won the Nobel Prize, and actually read over half of it.
But, Oh what torture! All about herself, which is not good as she comes across as batty, but most of all as hugely boring.
first part set in Rhodesia, but might as well be Victoria Coach Station.
I live in central London, so please come and take my copy away, before I fling it out of my high rise!!

This is a single boxed book which is truly beautifully presented. The original pictures and stories in all their splendour are laid out with loving care. If like me, you do not have room for the 23 little books in a boxed set, this is simply a wonderful alternative. It would be a fantastic present or a perfect book that will make a great impact on your bookshelves. I maybe 50 and have never read a Beatrix Potter story before, but this has certainly caught my attention and made my day!

Have read all four of the Shardlake series, all brilliant. I am now having withdrawal. Sansom has you totally engrossed, you can picture the scene, a detailed version of the violent times of Henry V111. I cannot find a single fault. Will there be anymore, please.
If you like historical whodunnits, these are for you, difficult to put down, extremely well written, who needs television.

I thought this book would be great, an interesting adventure and my first step into the literary world of greek classics. But after this, I am not rushing out to buy another greek classic.

The story is good, and the interesting mythological creatures and encounters are what kept me reading it. The characters make a square look less two dimensional and I can't, in all honesty, say I liked the good ones. I found Odysseus very arrogant and the gods hypocritical and the actions of them morally questionable. The style was also patronizing in places, by always addressing characters with an adjective describing their character, which we should make our own minds about, and not be force fed what we should think of them.

Perhaps if I was born at ... Read More:

This is my first encounter with Peter James, and bloody glad i chose this amongst other books in the charity shop. As i progressed through the book, my girlfriend could hear me whisper "Oh my god" several times as the story unfolded. I was part relaying the story as i read. lol. Another plus point is the story is set where i grew up, so i had the added visual bonus with the story, which was cool. Just ordered my second P.James book and cant wait to recieve it. 10/10

This volume has never been proof-read by anything or anyone with a level
of consciousness above that of an amoeba; at best it was processed through an automated grammar and spell checker; it's full of typographic errors, it's full of incorrectly utilised words, it has missing words, it has repeated words, it has .... the list goes on.

Worst of all these errors are persistent and frequent. It's a rare page that doesn't have one error or another, many have several.

One expects and allows for the odd mistake or typo, but this is at the
level which - if one is in the least bit sensible of language -
utterly destroys the enjoyment and readability of the work.

Frankly, I'm exceptionally disappointed in Harper ... Read More:

177.Midnight's Children (Vintage Classics) by: Salman Rushdie

It's hard to live up to the "Booker of Bookers" tag but this comes nowhere near. Rushdie can write: bursts of compelling narrative display that. Unfortunately the whole story is trussed up in that clever "flash-back", "flash-forward" conceit which eventually bored me. No, I didn't finish it. I got a little further than I did with Ulysses, but eventually hurled this into the same Pseud Bin.
I've read somewhere that the author intends the time switching to be like the digressions of an oral storyteller but I think that's like trying to capture ballet in a poem or the moon in a bucket. The device is overused and tiresome. Want a Third World Magic Realism Family Saga? try "House of the Spirits".

On the state of the nation's punctuation: this sounds like the kind of essay topic a prefect would award a wayward junior as punishment for some minor infringement ("500 words on the inside of a ping-pong ball", etc). However, this book turns out to be a funny, clever and witty tragi-comic diatribe.

Like many of you out there sci-fi novels aren't really on the top of my list of reading materials, but this is definately one not to be missed. Yet again Meyer has created a fantastic group of characters and a beautiful story of love, prejudice and humanity. Once you put aside your love of Edward and Bella (if you've read the Twilght Saga) you'll find yourself wrapped up in the new world of Melanie and Wanderer that will have you laughing, crying (literally) and waiting for more.

This was the first Peter James novel I have read, and it really didn't disappoint in any area! The plot was fast, the attention to detail superb, and I just didn't want to put the book down.
The character descriptions were so spot on, especially 'Potting' the un-PC DC! The frustrations of the Police doing all they can to outwit a serial killer were true to form, the chase to catch him had me on the edge of my seat ( first time ever in a book) if this is your first PJ book, you will not be left in any doubt buy his others! I am!
Brilliant!!!
