I love this book and the chips are to die for, I do them under the grill and they cook beautifully. All the food is easy to prepare and tasty.

I used to really like Nigel Slater's food page in the Observer when I was a student in the 90's, so I decided to pick up a book of his. I must say I was pretty disappointed - Nigel still writes with an undiminished passion about ingredients and flavours, but the recipies in here are frankly lame. If you cook everything in butter and double cream of course it's going to taste good! And thanks for the recipe for a baked potato. What really turned me off was the recipe for a rump steak sandwich in which Mr Slater admits that he "loathes brown beef". What cook in their right mind "loathes" brown beef for god's sake? Doesn't that discount half of the classic French and Italian dishes amongst others? You're a fake Nigel, go back to journalism.

This is such a cute little book! the recipes aren't really hi-tec or anything but it tells you how to build a fire and gives you checklists for equipment and stuff, which is good if you've never been camping before. and it's got lots of yum stuff i never would have thought of, like cooking roast chicken or this omlette with strawberries in. Theer are other harder recipes, but I preferd the easy, messy stuff which involves stuffing things on sticks! And barbecue stuff is well-covered too. The pictures look good but not fake, and the words are quite quirky and funny, made me laugh anyway, which i wasn't expecting. glad i bought it... might spur me on to cook a bit more outdoors instead of heading to the pub...

The book recreates the bemusement, hard work and ultimately triumphant feeling of those starting out on an allotment career. It shows how even when it's wet, cold and you'd rather be down the pub there is an attraction to allotmenting which can only be appreciated when you sit down to eat your results of your own efforts.

The characters are only slightly exaggerated and all that he records did happen (I know I'm the one with the long socks - read the book to understand). In short a bloody good laugh: the recipes are pretty good as well. Maybe this will do for New Zealand Spinach what Deliah did for cranberries!

I have most of this range and I use them most days. The ingredients are items you mainly keep in your larder and they are easy to follow. I love cooking and have many cookbooks, but I can honestly say that this range of books are the most used. Traditional and wholesome recipes that will provide you with many gorgeous treats!!!!!!!! You can also purchase any of these titles from the publisher if you cannot locate any of them - this is a service I have had to use as Amazon do not stock all of them. Its not entirely true that you get what you pay for - in some cases you get MORE!!! and I am pleased to say this is one of those cases.

I was a little nervous about purchasing this book knowing that a lot of ingredients might not be able, or found here in America as easily. I am happily surprised that every single recipe is easy to make, tastes delicious and every ingredient is available in your local supermarket. Being a vegitarian in a very carnivor home, I find the recipies easily interchangable with meat and non-meat products. I would and have, reccommended this to everyone I know.

I have really enjoyed reading and dipping into this thoughtful book. It's an inspiring variety of beautiful container projects that instantly make you want to start grubbing about and planting great things to eat. Plus, did I mention? They look FABulous....

The instructions are clear, succinct and helpful. You don't have to have the exact container that the author uses - you could pick something out of a skip and have the project work just as well. A section at the back has really useful details such as which vegetables need which type of soil, what their peculiarities are, what shade or sun they like and how much moisture they prefer. A section at the front has no-nonsense information on compost, containers and what-you'll-need. I found ... Read More:

This must be for people who have already eaten at Moro or in Andalusia - despite being a good cook I cannot make these recipes taste good. There are far better (but less trendy) Spanish/Moroccan books by any of the following food writers (as opposed to chefs-of-the-moment): Elizabeth Luard, Penelope Casas, Paula Wolfert; all keepers, unlike this one! In its favour, the reference section is reasonably helpful & the pics are intermittently charming. The paper stock stains & dissolves very easily - not great for a bone fide cook book, eh?
