Of all the regular Good Food books, I think this will be the most used due to having quite a few nice looking pasta dishes (by regular I mean the books which are focused on main courses & starters, not dessert books). The chicken tarragon went down very well when my gf made it for her family 1 time, but the salmon & mushrooms with tagliatelle wasn't as tasty as it looked (Not even in the same league as Gino D'Acampo's pasta bow ties with salmon, peas & shallots yet it ended up costing more).

I'm thinking of making the spicy sausage with pasta next as that looks rather nice. As I said in a review on One Pot Dishes, this series seems to have a bit of a problem which is that it lacks any real heart or soul since there is ... Read More:

There are some reviews of this fabulous cook book which complain about the poor translation, the fact that the book isn't in Engish alphabetical order, that the quantities aren't precise enough ... You're safe to ignore all these quibbles provided you accept the basis on which this cookebook was created.

It was designed to guide (young) Italians who were starting to lose their traditional roots in national cuisine and to help them know just how to make high quality food. For this audience it isn't necessary to give exact quantities or lengths of time ... they just know. And after working with this cookery book, you'll get to know these things too.

For me, a precise English/American book telling me just precisely what to ... Read More:

If you get a veg box delivered to your door from Riverford or anyone else then you've probably found yourself saying, "What on earth do I do with one of those?" One of the many delights of having a regular veg box, especially an organic one, is getting all those vegetables that you so rarely see in the supermarkets. But just what do you do with a celariac or a kohlrabi?

This book has all the answers! Just about every vegetable you're likely to see is covered by an introduction from Guy Watson and a selection of recipes from Jane Baxter. Both are experts with years of experience and the result is a cook book which is both useful and informative.

Don't think that it's not just the unusual vegetables that have a place in the book. If you're ... Read More:

You know the drill, you see a cookbook in the shop, pick it up and browse through, see about 3 or 4 recipes that grab you and head for the checkout... Then, when you get home and cook a couple you find the rest of the book overly complicated and ultimately it gets tucked away with the rest of the Gordon's, Nigella's etc etc to gather dust. Not so with the latest offering from Mr Oliver... I've bought most of Jamie's books and I've tried a fair few of his recipes over the years, but this book contains the best selection yet in my opinion. I actually bought this particular one for my husband as he'd promised 2008 would be the year he finally learnt to cook more than beans on toast! But I've also found it really comprehensive and easy to follow too. Our favourite recipes so far ... Read More:

This book is fantastic!!! I was always too nice and then wondered what i did wrong - now I know and now I'm going to become a "bitch". The advice is practical and makes sense and the book is very easy to follow. The more i read the more i was glued to the book. Finished in 2 days! Great investment.

It's a gorgeous book. No one will say anything less.

Most recipes are quite difficult or expensive for the home Chef, but this is a great insight into a 3 star Chef.

I say difficult because plenty of the recipes take a long time to cook and are very laborious, but 3 star cooking won't be easy.

I say expensive because truffles, foie gras and similar products pop up in Gordon's recipes quite frequently.

Hugh is ace. I already had a flick through his Meat and can honestly say the combination of the Meat and Fish in my library is superb. I regularly find myself getting out Hugh's Meat and rustling up something special - you expect great things from his Meat, but fish is another kettle altogether. His intimate relations with the fish really come to the fore - heads, tails, gutting, frying, stuffing - he really loves the fish. I have to say that I hadn't really been into fish until my partner suggested I tried her red snapper - one taste of that on my lips and I was hooked. Regardless of the fish, it's the way it's prepared and presented that makes the difference. I like to see the fish laid bare, on a plate for me to really get my juices flowing. I like the way he approaches the ... Read More:

Once again, Rachel has written a book with recipes that you will actually be able to use in everyday life, not just when you've got the time to do some specialist shopping and spend hours in the kitchen. The book is called "favourite food at home" and that's just what you get, if you're looking for something more fiddly or to impress your guests with your brilliant cooking techniques, you should look somewhere else (Gary Rhodes is my tip here). But if all you want is good family meals, this book really gives you a wide variety of choice and you won't be dissapointed. Of course, you've got to have a basic knowledge of cookery to succeed, but that's the case with practically every cookery book apart from those (often quite boring) step-by-step things or a real beginner's book. I purchased this as a present for a friend's birthday - she was over the moon with the book, and spent Sunday making dinner with recipes from the book. I shall definitely be purchasing this for others come Christmas due to the feedback i've received!
