I have purchased Kates cakes so I just had to buy her book and have a go. They are fantastic - her receipes and ideas are brilliant and you won't be disappointed. The pictures are stunning and even if you don't get round to baking the cakes, it is a lovely book to look at and have out in your kitchen.

This, like many of Marguerite Patten's other 'Basics' other books, is simply invaluable. Particularly key, now many of us are growing our own & therefore understand the seasonal 'glut' dilemma - there are, I promise you, only so many cucumbers you can eat in a week ........

i have read this book out of intertest after loosing 2 stone with paul mckenna.i have an interest in people and our relationship with food
i like the idea of intuitive eating, but then its says you shouldnt really eat alot of this or that, surely if he says follow your instincts about what to eat, saying what you idealy shouldnt eat is a contradiction? i mean with paul mckenna there is nothing at all you should be thinking about,no sugar or dairy, meat questions.just plain simple eat what you want and let the body tell yopu, how can your body be wrong.i have lost losts of weight and i dont eat alot of any so called junk food ,but if i really fancy it,i have it. i do think he has some interesting points and my husband stopped smoking thanks to ... I decided to try out this book after gaining 2 and a half stones over several years.Having never dieted before, I wasn't sure how to go about it, but didn't want to crash diet or begin a faddy, unhealthy diet.
I ordered this book in January and it has been invaluable. It sets out the principles of the GI hip and thigh diet - low fat, low calories, high GI eating, and is very easy to follow. It explains the pitfalls of crash dieting and also explains the importance of exercise in losing weight. While not following the recipes in the book, the principles behind the eating plan seem sound and are not difficult to follow - with a bit of willpower.
I do feel there is some over-emphasis in the book on marketing her other products, such as her ... Read More:

Real cidermaking is an excellent book for a newcomer to cider making. I bought it last year and followed what it said, and this year we are drinking lovely dry sparkling cider from our two apple trees. It was our first time ever trying to make cider, and the results are truly fantastic.

It is very much geared to the home cider maker who has tree with a lot of apples and wants to use them.

It usefully tells you why you should do something - eg sterilising properly - and what happens when you don't. This type of approach ensures that you don't cut corners because you know the consequences of doing so.

By and large the book is clear but I found that because you are making cider from real apples, and not using ... Read More:

This is a fantastic book and lives up to all the expectations I'd had when rading the reviews on Amazon. It truly isenlightening to see someone being frank and honest about eating meat - I have to say he really is open about his meat and goes into great detail about what he likes to do with his meat. It's a great reference for all wannabe chefs, and let's face it many of us fancy ourselves as the next big thing.
I love cooking and so does my partner. We often like to entertain a throng of guests with a buffet or smaller guests with a 3 course meal (smaller meaning less numbers, not height restricted). Anyway we are always looking for new recipes to excite our guests and chanced upon this little gem. With no shame, we are not vegetarians so like ... Read More:

Having read Hell's Kitchen I now feel that I understand Gordon Ramsay's personality a little better. His fanatical pursuit of perfection seems to be as a result of his difficult childhood. However I wonder if his constant use of the f word is entirely necessary as all it really shows is lack of vocabulary. This makes me feel that maybe nowadays he continues to use it for effect in print and on the small screen.
He is obviously very passionate about his restaurants and the meals they produce. He admits that the UK is still a long way behind the rest of Europe in terms of decent places to eat outside the big cities, a depressing but true fact. He hopes that things will improve slowly and that he has a part to play in improving the future eating habits of the British. ... Read More:

A lot of the recipes can be got from the web but for the pictures and the recipes themselves buy yourself the book (or better still, buy for he/she who lurks in the kitchen area). The chocolate brownie recipe is a personal favourite featuring their inspired use of raspberries and (as they keep for ages) you don't really have to share them with anyone else.
