Time and again it identifies the local gems, from sea caves to tea shops, ruined churches to secret bays. If you want to plan a trip then the most spectacular places are highlighted with full page picture spreads. I love it. Great photos, production, layout and maps (loads of them) too.

There is a whole host of books called "Times atlas of the world", and I was terminally confused. Until I did a bit of homework, and came up with the following: (all prices quoted from Amazon, August 2008) The biggest is called COMPREHENSIVE, costs £75 , is 47x32 cm, has 125 map plates (not pages, as most spread over 2 pages) and a 217-page index. The next is the CONCISE, costs £37, is 37x27 cm, has 105 plates on 198 map pages, and a 140-page index to 130,000 names. And 32 city maps, which is something the biggest lacks! The next is the UNIVERSAL, costs £ 33, is 32x27 cm, has 170 pages of maps (not plates - probably 90 plates), an index to 50,000 names, and 32 city maps. The next is the ... Read More:

We purchased this book after reading other reviews and were very disappointed. Much of the information was factually incorrect, we disagreed with hotel and restaurant recommendations and often found them to be closed down or some of the worst places we stayed or ate if we did use them. In many cases we wondered if the guide writers had even been to the places and throughout south america these books could be found in any secondhand shop that sold english books! Also, prices are quoted in USD not local currency which makes it virtually impossible to use them as a reference. Overall very disappointing!

I picked this book up when I saw it lying on a friend's coffee table and became absorbed from the first chapter, so much so I was barely able to put it down until it was finished. It is written in a humorous, fluent and self-deprecating style that provides a fascinating insight into life as an ex-pat in a remote foreign farming community. The book's worth is increased for me by it coming across as a very honest account of events naturally brought to life by the characters and their situation. Each chapter is a self-contained episode which keeps the whole thing fresh. I certainly chuckled aloud at one or two sections; the improptu talk given to the Swedish on cattle rearing in England being particularly memorable. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Beautiful in it's self this was really useful fo pulling out the 'must see' scenic bits of China when planning an extended trip. The most useful guide book I found (and the only one of the 3 I purchased that I'll be lugging with me to China) was Frommer's China (Frommers Complete) published in April 2008.

I can't believe that the best feature of this map isn't made clear in the description. It is made of polyester film, therefore it is all but indestructible. Rain, clumsy folding or stuffing into pockets/handbags will do nothing to dim the brilliance of this fine map. A clear enough scale to read all the street names, without being too large. Also, being indestructible, it can be folded and refolded to show just the part of town you are in (or searching for!) There are only a couple of minor gripes. Firstly, the map would be better if it extended a way further north, as only half of Montmartre is shown. Secondly, the Metro plan is too small to read easily, and covers only the city centre. This is just the sort of guidebook I've been waiting for. Packed full of places to stay and places to visit, inspired by 'good food and artisan producers.... craftmanship and community, landscape and history'. The book is divided into geographical regions with useful maps so that you can plan your time (or dip in and out as you wish). As with all Sawday guides, the places reviewed have a thorough write up. Stunning photos are sprinkled through the book..... A book to curl up with and plan your slow adventures. Just gorgeous!

A book for bikers (or wannabe bikers) who are looking for more than just a trip to the coast or pub of a weekend. Well written, entertaining, and above all inspires the desire to want to do one of the trips described. Great photos, simple maps and descriptions of each trip, most based on the authors personal experiences so well informed.

This is the 3rd book in the series from Chris Stewart about his life in Spain. Although it suffers from comparisons with the previous 2 books, taken in isolation it is still a great read. It is full of humour and is an entertaining read.
