The thing with Dubai is that it is changing all the time. Most people who move to Dubai will purchase this book because it is updated every year, and the Explorer are the only ones to update their book regularly. Why the book is so good is because it covers everything from moving to Dubai, to the coolest restaurants and ents, to property, to construction. It is also recommended by the independant guides to Dubai, including grapeshisha.com which calls it the "must have guide to Dubai". If you are moving to Dubai, you must get this book. It will help you out with all the things you hadn't thought of.

This account of an Afghan middle class family in the period immediately after the fall of the Taliban gives some acute and depressing insights into the routine and unthinking oppression that is the lot of many Afghan women. The bookseller - head of a large family - dragoons his sons into working long hours in his various bookshops and cruelly disregards the feelings of the female members of his family. He takes a young, uneducated second wife after he tires of his older, educated first wife. She is left to languish in Pakistan for years, cut off from her sons and daughters, until Sultan relents and allows her to return to Kabul. Sultan's younger sister is reduced to the role of a domestic servant, and her desire to teach is thwarted. The treatment ... Read More:

I bought this book for my 1st trip to HK (about 2 weeks ago). I found it great at 1st that it comes with a pull-out map but realise after; everywhere I go there were maps provided for including the hotel+tubes! The eating places suggested were over-rated and some of the local eats like the famous local HK pastry "wife biscuit" or "wanton noodles" were never mentioned which seems rather tragic.
Also, the nightlife suggested by the book was also so-so........ Instead i got to know about the hottest club (Club Beijing) from a local hairdresser doing my hair. The book also failed to mention that there was a hot bar right above Hotel LKF with fantastic view + the people tend to be dressier on Saturday than Friday!

Overall, i felt the book ... Read More:

Just got this as a Christmas present for someone, and looking through, it makes a very interesting read, with lots of unusual and entertaining nuggets of information and facts. The illustrations are good too.

However I was a bit disappointed to find 3 mistakes in the space of as many pages when I looked at my own local area (Suffolk), which could have been corrected by anyone with Google and an extra 30 seconds to check each one... It was Sir Robert Watson-Watt who was instrumental in the development of RADAR at Bawdsey just before WW2 (not Robin), it's the River Deben (not Debden), and Grimston Hall is in Trimley St Martin (not the adjacent parish of Trimley St Mary). Which just makes me slightly question the veracity of the rest of the book. ... Read More:

I can speak from the view point of writing a sports studies dissertation and having the pleasure of meeting one of the authors (IAN) myself as he is a lecturer at my university. The book is perfect for anyone who wants a simple but through guide to writing a dissertation for sports studies. If I was to describe it in a few words:

Interesting
Thorough
Easy read
Covers all the main points

A must have for sports management/studies/leisure and tourism. Hope this helps !

The best thing about this book is its realism, the authors not only tell you how to run events, they show you the problems too. Some of the other events books I've read are very "happy clappy", they say how wonderful events are but don't key you in to what you really need to know and what to look out for. This one does.

The book is also very well organised. Each chapter deals with a particular aspect, such as marketing, finance, organisation etc. Also the index is very comprehensive as well as the chapter references, so that if you need to look back for something, say, "project management", it's very easy to find. The book is now in its second edition, and so it's up to date. It is a very European based book, but our company organises events throughout ... Read More:

This book is a very informative, enlightening and interesting read.

This book is a pleasure to read. It is easy to follow the author as he travels around the world. He starts explaining briefly about his background in Poland and his desire to `cross the border' and how, as a consequence, he finds himself being sent to India.

Perhaps one of the main attractive qualities of the author is that he is honest; he doesn't say he likes or even enjoys all of the places he travels to. For example, taking his first long-haul trip to India, the reader gets the impression that he really entered at the deep end and found it quite tough.

Later in the book he goes on to discuss in more detail the reasons why people travel and this `philosophy ... Read More:

I am so pleased to have found this book again, I used to own it once before and enjoyed its easy style but I gave it away to a South American friend who was learning English (she loves it!).

This book is so expertly executed that even if you have only a modest level of Spanish, it will strengthen what you've already got, provide you with new words and encourage you onto more.

It's set around 18 stories or myths or folklores from Spain's past, starting with the oldest first and working towards the newest last, with the Spanish and English presented on facing pages.

But each story is introduced by a one paragraph abstract which helps sets the scene for the story that follows. And each of the stories in turn are interesting and engaging in their own ... Read More:

I thought this book was great. Easy to read, very helpful and full of loads information that was really interesting. I really liked how much history the book covers, all about the makings off new york which alot of guide books dont go into. It wasnt untill i was on my trip to new york that i realised that the book has incorrect addresses in it!!! I was walking around trying to find the patricia field store (costume designer for sex and the city) the guide book claimed that the store was on 8th street between 5th ave and University place. Its actually 302 Bowery street. Unfortunatly because of this error I diddnt get chance to go to the store and was left thinking, what else in it was incorrect!
