I've been developing .Net applications since version 1.0 and wanted to use this book to polish what I know and fill in any gaps. Unfortunately this book has proved to be almost of no use whatsoever. The first hard lesson to learn is that the book MUST be read alongside the substantial list of corrections available on the Microsoft website. If you don't heed this warning you quickly form the opinion that not only has the book not been proof read by a third person but that it's not even be proof read by the authors. The second major problem is that the combination of authors working on the book has led to an inconsistent style and tone. After reading a couple of books on Agile, The Art of Agile Development does the best job of presenting all the ideas and concepts needed to start putting it all into practice. Previously I've been left with questions about how to go about implementing certain ideas or mis-understood key concepts, I felt able enough to start putting a lot of Agile and XP concepts into practice straight away. The material itself is very digestable and written in a great down to earth manner. Rather then being a case of teacher lecturing to their student, it felt a lot like someone who's been there and gone through all the pains before hand, had come round to visit one afternoon to tell you what they had learnt and what they believe works best. ... I have found this book a useful resource for my software project management module in my computer science degree. The book is fairly straightforward and clear. It maybe doesn't have as much detail as I would have liked, but it does the job well, and it is not that expensive, compared to other similar books which can be £40+ For those studying project management, this is definitely worth a look.

This book gets you thinking about typography rather than teaching you the art - although there are a few practical tips you will pick up along the way. Written in a witty and entertaining style it is a worthwhile introductory read for those just getting into typography.

I read this book 3 years ago, and DDD has been my preferred design concept ever since. However, I have to agree that this book uses a highly sophisticated language, which is very difficult to read for a non-native English person. Also the book is way to long. I wrote an internal summery, which is about 10 A4 pages, and it contains all key concepts about DDD. This book should have been no more that 200 pages. The thing is that DDD is actually a very easy concept, but this book makes it overly complicated, and the concepts drowns in unnecessary details. Also the book lacks examples. I found Dan Gookin's book extremely clear, helpful and supportive. I started editing word processing a book manuscript knowing very little about the finer details of Word so editing it became a nightmare. I kept on looking at the 'Help' facility but it often didn't tell me what I wanted to know. Now I have learned a whole lot more, though I haven't actually tried out all the information in the book. I shall be trying various other exploits out in future incase I need them some time. Thank you Dan for your help.

I would imagine that there are equally informative books that don't confuse the readers' computer illiteracy with his or her being generally thick, as this book seems to. However, there is a wealth of knowledge, tips and fixes that are very useful - but I find I have to grit my teeth to open the pages. You may want to see some reviews on similar books before opting for this one. The only reason I gave it three stars is because of the tips - I'd been struggling to set up a wireless network at home and cracked it in a few minutes with the help of this book. I hate to admit it - but it is helpful.

Beyond the easy-to-read style and the humorous cartoon illustrations the start each chapter there is a wealth of impressively detailed information on improving your Search Engine Optimisation. This ranges from an explanation of search engines and the way they work, to the simple choice of appropriate keywords and the more elaborate (and expensive) pay-per-click systems. Don't be fooled by the name and the cartoon cover, this book is a seriously useful manual on the art and science of SEO. Essential reading for anyone interested in website development.
