I recently attended a two-day course on Adobe Photoshop CS3 as part of my conversion to digital photography and digital imaging. At the end of that course the students were all given a copy of this book which contains a training CD Rom. As I was already booked onto the "advanced course" in 14 days time, I eagerly put the CD into my computer to practise what I had learned. Only then did I discover the CD would not work without my having first purchased and installed the full Adobe Photoshop CS3 software. In my case, I had already ordered that software so it was only a matter of a few days delay before I could get started. If you`re like me, attention span of a newt, then this is the book for you! I`ve got SO many books over the years about Photoshop and whilst i`ll get to about the 2nd chapter i get fed up and move on. Unless, that is, a book comes along that is superbly written and incredibly easy to follow, packed full of useful REAL LIFE information that you will and can ACTUALLY use....this is that book. Its just an awesome piece of writing. Simplicity its its key to success. You just follow the simple instructions, repeat, practice and tadaah!! You`ve got it! Maybe this has just set a standard that other books should follow.....in my eyes it certainly has!

This is a really excellent technical book that you can actually enjoy reading from cover to cover. It assumes a reasonable level of competance, but actually goes through learning C# and .NET in a way that would be an excellent beginners method too (especially if you went through every example, to which source code is available online). The author even manages to get in the odd bit of dry humour too which never goes amiss in a thick technical book such as this! The book regularly points you at a number of web resources which the author has built up over the years which give excellent additional information about topics which are outside the scope of the book. Overall, I'd say this is one of the best technical books I have ever read.

So many books are thick, wordy, and conceal their nuggets of wisdom, but not this one. It's not big, so you won't find full details on (eg) all of the many Linux email clients - but they get a mention. Works well for me (ex BSD 4.x sysop in the 1980s) as well as friends with no previous knowledge of operating systems. It's the examples that are such a help - most of the things we've needed to do are covered with a brief, relevant example. We use it with Ubuntu mainly - Debian distros are not identical to Fedora but we've not seen a problem - both are Linux and conform to the POSIX standard. I bought this book as Xmas present for my 11 year old (animation mad )son having read the reviews. In his own words "I havn't got through all of it but it is extremely helpful for my animation". Apart from the digital blue camera we bought, this has been his most used and loved present. He finds the wording and pictures understandable, and the moving charactor pages fascinating. I have stumbled across a treasure that may well turn out to give him advancement for when he gets to high school (where they finally teach this stuff!)

What a breath of fresh air to find a down to earth explanation of how to get on with Excel 2003. It's written in plain english, with a sense of humour thrown in. With clear step-by-step instructions and plenty of illustrations to get you through each subject, you can't go wrong. In just a few days, I've read the book and carried out the instructions of the exercises with ease, and I'm not a computer whizz by any stretch of the imagination. Well worth the money.

I was lucky enough to be given this as a birthday gift when I first got into my Family Tree. It is a really useful resource helping a beginner find their way around the wealth of info available on the web to the amateur genealogist. There is info on where to start and on the whole aray of online sources. A great book, worth the money.

I've used Photoshop for a number of years now, and even teach it on a regular basis, but this book blew me away! It wasn't so much that all the information in it was new to me (though a lot was), but the way that Matt explains things is fantastic! I think I managed to get as far as about page 10 before I went "wow, that's brilliant!". Highly recommended. Thanks Matt!

I am an ITIL Consultant and an ITIL Trainer, with MBA in Technology Management. When I first looked at version 3, I smelled MBA style of Service Management and no doubt, ISEB released a Diploma there after. I wanted some text that could tell me exactly and precisely, like a summary of ITIL v3 life-cycle approach and how each process fits in the life cycle; without going over the five fat books. And I found this. I based my buying decision on other buyer's comments on amazon; however found that this book is invaluable. I now use it before the meetings to prepare my list of questions and of course, its so small in size that I have it in my pocket most of the time at work. Buy it.....and you will not regret your purchase.
