I rather tire of hearing how 'boring and uninteresting' Delia Smith is perceived to be. For those who do not, or, indeed, cannot cook here is the finest set of 3 books (this being the last of the trilogy)that offer basic explanation of all cookery terms and ingredients in the simplist form which is easy to understand. The recipes are absolutely accurate - (never ever make the mistake of thinking that you'll leave something on the hob or in the oven for a moment longer than Delia tells you). For my part I cook well. I use many of the recipes found in this (and the other 2 books)and the compliments I receive belie the simplicity of her perfect instructions. I am genuinely excited about this book! When I first received it, I had a thoroughly good look through it and was especially impressed with the chefs profiles and the quality of the photographs which support the text. The many pictures and recipes demonstrate an excellent level of culinary competence. The authors have a real feeling for all things culinary and have created a set of books which should be recommended to all young and aspiring chefs. The book is written with care and diligence with detailed observations and well written explanations of the methods, which is so important when writing a culinary manual. This is the second book of the series, and as ever is fantastic. The book is slighty more advanced than the first is is packed full of very useful and help step by step tips. There are sections all about chocolate, embroidery, making flowers, recipes, runouts, figure piping, bas relief, marzipan....I could go on because the techniques are endless. A must have for a cake maker or someone who just wants to try different methods and styles.

I love this book - everything I have made from it has come out as it should have! The ingredients aren't too exotic, and there's a good variety of recipes. There is a good mixture of simple and fancy things to make. The only difficulty I had was that quite a few of the recipes contained nuts (I live with someone with an allergy) but in a lot of cases the nuts weren't a crucial part of the recipe anyway. I love this series of books, and this is my favourite so far!

Any aspiring young person who wishes to join the catering profession should have a copy of this book. It is thorough, well researched, modern and expresses all the values which surround the British Culinary Arts tradition. This is a valuable edition to any ones cookery book collection. Got this book for Christmas 07 and am slowly but surely working my way through it. Simple, easy to follow and well explained. My only slight fault would be I would like even just a little picture beside each recipe to see how it's supposed to turn out. Other than that, 10/10

What's good is the variety of different terrines. Before I bought this book, I thought they had to be meat based. You could have a great dinner party making a vegetable, a meat, a fish, a cheese and a dessert terrine, no hassle as everything could be made in advance. Most of the recipes are quite simple, the book looks great and is a good price too. Not quite sure about Cook guru's review, I like the pictures in this book, each of the recipes is illustrated with a picture of the finished Terrine.
