I have tried several raw food 'cook' books of late - they all had something to offer, but they have been dominated by dips and sauces rather than the 'solid' food I was seeking. This is well illustrated, easy to follow, doesn't rely too heavily on a dehydrator (but a food processor would be useful) and generally brighter and more accessible than others I have read, still lots of dips, but much more besides. An instant favourite.

This recipe book is a superb addition to anyone's culinary library - clearly not every recipe will suit every person but it is inconceivable that you would not find a significant number of useful recipes in here and even if you found just one nugget, then considering the price, it would be well worth it. The variety of recipes in the 1000 series is simply staggering - to say you are stuck for choice is an understatement. And there is a vegetarian section in this too which is an extremely useful feature. Ok, so there are no photographs but against that, the books don't cost a fortune either and they are compact. This is a fantatstic book and saved the day when we bought an old house and inherited a 16-year old AGA. I was petrified of it at first but once I read through this book I was able to get going straight away. The book falls roughly into 3 parts. The first tells you all about AGAs - the different sorts you can get, a little bit of history and some of the other things you can do with an AGA (other than cooking!). The next section explains about the equipment you'll need and arrangements for servicing, with the final section covering recipes and techniques. I was expecting some really dull, stodgy recipes but I got it totally wrong. The recipes range from the traditional game casseroles through to risottos and pasta dishes. The recipes in this book are amazingly good and taste wonderful, thai food seems so light and lovely - the green thai chicken curry is highly recommended. Very easy to follow, however if you expect a short lists of ingredients to prepare - you might be slightly disappointed. As long as you prepare the ingredients beforehand you can't go wrong. I have easily found 95% of the ingredients at Tescos.

This was the first book I bought by Ainsley Harriott and up to now all of the recipes I have tried have been fantastic. You seriously can't go wrong with his recipes! If you do buy this book, please, please try his Tikka Massala, it's to die for. I can guarantee you will think twice about ordering a curry from the local Indian Takeaway once you have tried Ainsleys! My husband and I made it for 20 hungry RAF personnel and it went down a storm!! I would also recommend the salmon fish cakes, cheesy fish pie, the quiche recipe...oh the list goes on. I always turn to this book when I'm not too sure what to make for our evening meal and we are never disappointed with the results, it truly is a fantastic asset to any kitchen.

As a Christmasaholic, I look forward to getting this book down from the shelf at the beginning of November, to start all the fun bits before the hassle starts. (Though you'll need plenty of space in the freezer.) I'd really recommend the Christmas chutney and the spiced apricot & orange chutney, sausage rolls, mincemeat and - best of all - the light glace fruit cake. So would all my friends and family! And there are some great veggie recipes. Her Christmas lunch schedule, giving you all the timings, is brilliant, although you can actually do a lot more of it a day or so in advance to leave more time on the day. I'd recommend this as a great present - but maybe not a Christmas present!

I saw a recipe from this book in my Saturday newspaper magazine and gave it a go....brilliant! so I ordered the book and since then have tried most of the recipes which are so good and easy to follow. I have passed on lots of the recipes to friends who have enjoyed my cooking/baking and told them to buy the book for themselves. I'm certain no one will be sorry they bought this book and I speak as someone who has loads of cookery books, some of which turned out to be a big disappointment.
