A friend let me borrow her copy of this book and I must say, its not the sort of book I would normally choose. However, I was inbetween Amazon deliveries and books just read so I decided to give it a go.

This book made me giggle, it kept me entertained, it was light hearted escapism. It was like watching Heartbeat on a Sunday evening. It was a warm and cosy read. I liked it!

I was crying at the end, not because I was sad or that it was a sad ending. It was a lovely, happy ending and THAT is why I cried, because it was so happy!! Does that make sense?

A good read and I will probably try some of Sophie Kinsellas other novels now.

Having an interest in the Spanish civil war and liking crime novels, i thought this would be just right, but found it all wrong.Yet another book that relies, in the plot, on improbable coincidences that feel like a deception, an easy way out. Life in postwar Madrid does not seem real, although it may be well-researched. The writing is overblown - too many adjectives, too many unnecessary awkward details: (his eyes went flickering over the desk...)and the characters talk in a kind of brief-encounter-speak, which soon palls. Worst of all, there is no real pace in the book, or drive to find out what is going to happen next to the uninteresting characters. The reviews quoted on the cover are baffling, and just show that you shouldn't believe everything ... Read More:

I find with most 'classic' books, the hype is more than the substance and again Brave New World falls into that category.

It is quite an easy read - except the constant Shakespeare quotations towards the end, but it is a novel that I feel fails to take a great idea and develop it totally - the end is a big let down for instance.

I am glad that I read it to understand why it holds such attention after all these years but it isn't a book that I feel I could recommend.

This is the worst book I have read in the past five years. The plot crawls along predictably but unbelievably. The dialogue sounds unauthentic. The characters are wooden and stereotyped. There is gratuitous product placement throughout. Everyone's car and mobile phone is lovingly described. Crime fiction for idiots. Avoid at all costs.

135.We Need to Talk About Kevin (Five Star Paperback) by: Lionel Shriver

Lionel Shriver's epistolary novel "We Need To Talk About Kevin" recounts the childhood of Kevin Katchadourian through the eyes of his mother, Eva. Kevin commits mass murder at the age of 16, and through letters to her husband, Franklin, Eva attempts to find clues in his upbringing.

This is a complex, intelligent novel that asks more questions than it answers. The author never shies from controversial artistic choices. Kevin appears to be born a sociopath rather than made so through emotional neglect or abuse. Eva admits not bonding with her son. And, while some readers may end up frustrated by the conflicting perceptions in the book, I found it raised thought-provoking questions; the author cites enough examples of US high-school mass murders where the motives ... I think I've read all of Kathy Reichs Temp Brennan novels and I always look forward to the latest one. However, in this case I'm inclined to agree with the first two reviewers - the plot is a bit far fetched, even if it does all come together in the end.

Another point I find difficult to believe is that there is a description of some lesions on a skeleton, even as a complete layman one possible diagnosis is glaringly obvious, so Temp should have been able to make it in her sleep. But no, she lists several other diseases, missing the obvious one for several chapters.

There is a lot of good erotica in the short story genre at the moment and this is one of the best. Red hot stories that are believable and imaginative, the characters are beautiful and are doing things we all do, or would like to do. I also enjoyed the 2007 edition, thats well worth a look. And my own personal favourite, the classic '100 Percent Erotica' by Suzie Van Aartman, you'll need to change your underwear after reading that.

What a pleasant surprise? I had no idea Conn Iggulden was such an accomplished author?
Having read many books in the historical genre from Cornwell and Follett Conn stands in his (I assume its written by a man I would be surprised otherwise lol) own right.
I wanted to learn about Ghengis Khan, I expected tales of his battles etc but this book has sooo much more, the scale of the book has added real depth to the characters so you can feel for each one.
1st of the "Conqueror" series - I have so much to look forward to! I may even try the "Emperor" series after this tour de force of a novel alone!

Enjoyed Cold Granite tremendously so was looking forwards to reading the next installment. It was another great read I really love the story line and all the characters. Hope this is going to be one of many Logan Mcrae novels.

I really enjoyed this book of the lost and found centred around cases taken on by ex-policeman now PI, Brodie. Atkinson takes you into her characters musings on life after death and loss with witty observations. The cases are poignant, sad, inevitable and it is not just Brodie who is confused by the end. Not everything is tied up neatly leading to more confusion. Major and minor characters are rounded and full of life, even the sad ones.
