I persisted with this book far longer than I should have - I could have been reading something worthwhile. Ploughed through to the half way point, expecting that something interesting must happen soon (no), not at all interested in what happened to any of the dull and one dimensional characters. I eventually skipped to the end to see what happened, which was what I was expecting. Saved myself a few hours and can now move onto something I might actually enjoy. Disappointing.

A fantastic thriller that keeps you hooked throughout.
I am often disappointed by a thriller's conclusion - but felt that this one kept you gripped all the way through.
I'm a little bit torn in my appreciation of the hero. He is a great character - but suprisingly violent with little conscience, which just does not seem to fit with the overall feel of the character. However, this can be forgiven as it keeps the story running forward at a rapid pace.
I was hooked from the start and found it to be a very enjoyable read.
If you like Michael Connelly books (Harry Bosch fans will appreciate the similar characteristics in Jack Reacher), then you'll find an equally strong thriller in this one.
I can't wait to read the ... Read More:

I'm a great Lee Child fan, but for some reason was late coming to this one. The way it's written in the first person offers insights into the classic Reacher character in ways that some of the other books don't. I found this really worked, and overall this was definitely the most gripping of the series so far.

I found this book lovely, most of all because it engages you so deeply with the characters, especially Florentino. Yes - it does make you wonder how you can feel sympathy for him, since he sleeps with over 500 women (!) while waiting for the love of his life, but I think it's his humanity and romanticism which make you want him to win over Fermina from the start to the end, despite his imperfections. The sweetness of his other habits, such as writing love poems for young sweethearts, and his gentle honesty, made me adore him.

The book will absorb you and give you the feeling you are living under the hot Columbian sun, smelling the smells of the town and walking in the market under the blazing heat, to the extent I almost had culture shock ... Read More:

..because I think that the Cross series are becoming a little predictable and 'the same'. I hope we get a more exciting next book. As much as I loved Alex Cross I hope I don't get too bored with this series. Enjoying the Womens Murder Mystery Club books more at the moment.

I really enjoyed this book, a great young adult novel. It definatley leads onto another book no different from any author really.

The charachters were well planned and interesting. I loved the otherworld series and couldn't wait for this one to come out.

In the UK this book came out in paperback so didn't set me back a fortune (£3.25 on amazon) so would definatley buy the next in the series.

If you like LJ Smiths Secret Circle or Meg Cabot 1-800-Where-are-you series, you should like these.,

But be warned this is not like to other otherworld books

I have to give Tess five stars because no other book I have ever read has moved me to such a degree. Thirty years later I still have my original copy, entirely disintegrated, the glue dissolved, very possibly by my hot adolescent tears. It simply tore me apart - I remember in particular struggling to finish Tess's letter from Flintcomb-Ash through eyes blurred with grief, and that after finishing the book I was well-nigh inconsolable for days. I spent the following summer touring the Dorset locations on my bicycle as a kind of pilgrimage, and remember those cruel hills pretty well too.

But having said that, I was sixteen at the time and emotionally wide open. Reading it just five years later, I could hardly get past the clumsiness and infelicities ... Read More:

This is one of the very best books I have ever read. Unlike some of her other books this one is not gruesome, so will appeal to the more squeamish reader like myself. It is absolutely brilliant and the twist to the story is totally unexpected. Fascinating and unputdownable!

This book made me cry on the very first page.Something a book has never made me do before, the third or fourth maybe, but never the first. This book is about a woman who is dieing from cancer and has four very different daughters who she is leaving behind.Lisa in a loving relationship but terrified of commitment.Unhappily married Jennifer.Amanda the traveler who's never in one place to long is this because she likes adventure or because she's running away?
