The guide book is useful, interesting and really helps you make the most of your time in Cambodia. I wouldn't have seen half of the amazing places if I hadn't taken it with me. The information in it is accurate despite what the local taxi drivers may say!! Stand your ground!! There is no need to buy any extra guide books when you're there either - all of their information is included in this one.
The only thing the book doesn't prepare you for is the random overpricing that has occurred, the variation from shop to shop is immense. Shop where the locals shop and you'll save a fortune.

I have just returned from china in which i spent three months there teaching and travelling. This was my first time travelling and the book was fantastic!! Alot of details and information for even the obscurest places in china. There was only one place i visted that wasn't in the lonely planet. It helped with language barrier aswell due to a lot of the places i went to were in chinese characters in the book. I will stick with the lonely planet guides when I travel in the future. Also much better than rough guide!

Dont go to venice without this book , it has everything you need . We brought this along with the Lonely Planet Map and they were both excellent. Venice can be really busy but this book has many suggestions of where to spend your time. A perfect guide to a beautiful city.

What is it about Lonely Planet? Like a rash, their guides are everywhere - sometimes in the most unwelcome of places. Nicely packaged and handy they may be, but they are often woefully inaccurate and incomplete. This is no exception. Cutting and pasting a few paragraphs about history and culture, this really skims the surface of a fascinating country, and leaves many fascinating places out. If you're a twentysomething Australian back-packer, then this book will probably make you very happy; if you're more discerning, and looking to explore the country's lesser known areas and learn more about its culture (and if you're interested in accuracy), then I would go for the infinitely better Rough Guide.

If time is tight, or you just like to arrive at a holiday destination very well prepared, a guidebook is a valuable and important investment. So choosing the right one is crucial.

Whilst I suspect that "Time Out" and "Lonely Planet" books probably sell in greater volume, having looked through them both I'm extremely glad I opted instead to use this Eyewitness Travel Guide for my recent trip to Paris. It helped me make the most of my trip.

As with most guidebooks this breaks down Paris into a series of districts - but then very clearly labels the key attractions, how to find them and even proposes short walks that will enable you to get the most out of your time in that area.

Despite saying that this book was revised in 2006, some entries were already out of date. For example, it lists "James Bond" Bottoms Up in Tsim Sha Tsui. This bar closed in 2004 (and is different to the bar with the same name which is now operating in Wan Chai).

Apart from a few exceptions, most things are still accurate, and the "10 best..." format works well for a concise and pocket-size guide, and with several thumbnail pictures per page, is light and easy to dip into.

It ranges in detail from "10 Highlights of Hong Kong" to "10 places to People Watch in Tsim Sha Tsui", with pages on bars, places to eat, 10 Security Tips, the 10 best sights in each region etc. Around 85 "10" lists in all (by my reckoning), plus overview pages and some "one day itinerary" ... I visited Morocco in Spring this year and found that the level of detail in the Rough Guide to Morocco was impressive. The guide is straight forward and easy to use and was full of details I wouldn't have even thought of expecting from a guide book, but definitly appreciated reading. Packed with every detail from which airlines fly into Morocco, to examples of traditional Moroccan myths, it was the perfect companion for our trip! It gave us practical details, which were accurate and helpful and at the same time gave us an insight into the complex culture. I started using Rough Guides with a trip to Stockholm last December and now I'm hooked!
