As a Lecturer of Beauty Therapy I have found this book indispensible as a reference both for planning lessons and for my students for City and Guilds NVQ2 Beauty Therapy. I have met Lorraine Nordmann (an External Verifier for City and Guilds) whilst I was assessing students; and found her to be both exacting and knowledgeable. This book matches the teaching standards perfectly and so is ideal for students and Lecturers alike. There are clear learning objectives in all sections; and the book is easy for students to read too.

This book is fantastic!!! I was always too nice and then wondered what i did wrong - now I know and now I'm going to become a "bitch". The advice is practical and makes sense and the book is very easy to follow. The more i read the more i was glued to the book. Finished in 2 days! Great investment.

I used this book for my first year at med school, it got me through my exams, but if i was to go back i would use Gray's anaotomy. For me the problems with this book are: -It's too complicated, and goes into to much detail, certainly more than you need in your first year. -It's hard to find the relavant info amongst all the excess info, so things take much longer. -It's intimidating, by this i mean the text is very small and there's often pages and pages of it at a time, so it really puts you off. -The diagrams aren't as clear as in Gray's, they are hand drawn/painted pictures of real specimens... and i think this makes them more confusing. 'Salt and Vinegar', as this book has affectionately come to be know, has become something of a bible to a 3rd year med student. It has most of the information you'd need for the specialty rotations. When compared to the OHCM, however, improvements to the layout of some of the text needs improving. Also, the 'insights' given in this book- quotes from books, ethical tangents, are all too often not insightful at all. They're long and not always optional reading, as they're woven into the essential reading.

There's no doubt that this very good solution to improve your knowledge in histology. The text is simple, clear and doesn't go too much in details. The pictures are amazingly clear but at many places there coud have been better labels. This book presumes, especially in later chapters, that you know the previous stuff well, so many things that are mentioned in text are not indicated in pictures and you have to find them yourself.

What gives this book a very distinguished credibility and authenticity is the pertinent fact that the author formulated his ideas while as a Holocaust prisoner. Immediately the reader is taken out of the comfort zone as the captive and dehumanising realities of such a barbaric context are presented. Frankl looks very very deeply at what provides human strength to get over the most forlorn, hopeless and torturing circumstances. Nietzche's dictum "What doesn't kill us only make us stronger?" planted itself in my mind throughout this book and just did not move. With over 450,000 copies sold, this book is arguably the best book of its kind. What's it useful for? Mainly to help the reader (from the weekend athlete to the athletic trainer to the professional bodybuilder) figure out what exercises work what muscles. It's neatly divided up into sections (arms, shoulders, chest, back, etc.), so all you really have to do is flip to one of these sections and it will have detailed pictures of various exercises and exactly which muscles are involved. A great reference to keep have around, I give it five stars easy. Readers who lift weights regularly might also be interested Treat Your Own Rotator Cuff to avoid shoulder problems a lot of lifters eventually get.
