I used Gina's routines for my son and daughter. Both slept through the night at about 5 months and well before other babies I met at mothers groups etc. A lot of what she says is common sense once you consider it, 'don't rock a baby to sleep it'll expect it, put it down to sleep awake to fall asleep on its own. The tone can be a bit patronising and the routines very rigid, 'don't forget to cream his creases at 6.15' but if you adapt the routines to suit you they do work fabulously and you can enjoy some quality time once the children are in bed, sound asleep at 7pm. I also used Gina's potty training which worked within a few days. One negative comment, despite what she says (and I tried so hard), you will not get a 1 week old baby in to ... Read More:

Great book, great for all levels - good mix of theorists, excellent links to more information. Good links to those who oppose the theorists cited and why - would recommend as a good basic book for any level of learning

As a med student..i found that this book covered basically anything i have needed to know in a simple..easy to understand fashion.

Everyone i have spoken to has a copy of this book..and uses it on at least a weekly basis. The book covers material from the very basics to the complex..and managed to acheive this without being patronising or condescending..all in all a great book

My partner and I have been so grateful to the friends who bought us this book! It really does contain everything you need to know, and has been very reassuring for me as someone who tends to worry a lot about everything! Even my partner has read large chunks (something he has not done with the other books we have). I particularly liked the step by step weekly guide which was incredibly informative. The photography is amazing and the narrative is very well informed (by properly qualified professionals). Buy this for yourself and your pregnant friends - they'll be forever grateful.

I'm no expert on cbt or any type of psychology and I'm always slightly wary. CBT, however, was recommended to me by a psychologist to assist me to help my client group - troubled young people. I love the 'for Dummies' series as they are really easy to read but provide you with quite a broad knowledge for a layman. There is a wealth of sound practical advice in this book for everybody and I can't believe how much I'm learning about myself and my incorrect thinking and its effects. This book requires a lot of concentration (although the style of writing is easy) and effort to think the material through and also to complete the exercises but it really is life-changing. I don't know if it works really well for serious mental health problems but it is certainly ... Read More:

20.7 Habits of Highly Effective People by: Stephen R. Covey

While working for a previous company, I was sent on this course (which included reading the book). I'm sure the company meant well, but my experience of the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People", was essentially teaching people how to suck eggs.

Stephen R. Covey has made a personal fortune out of selling what most critical thinkers realise for themselves at an early age. His writings are bland and uninteresting, telling us what we already know in a language barely recognisable as English. "Synergize", "leverage", "win-win"; I'm sure you've heard them before. They are all here. Do they mean anything? In my humble opinion - not in the slightest.

Steer clear.
