Thunder & Ashes is a book that everyone who has read 'Plague' should read.

It is fast paced and full of action. I agree that it is slightly less exciting than 'Plague', however, I liked it just as much if not more. All the characters are back and we are introduced to a whole town of new ones.

This book os a very good read and i had finished it in next to no time.

I would recommend this to anybody but I would mention to buy Plague first as some bits might be hard to grasp without having read it.

Recht is an amazing writer and I am eagerly awaiting 'Surviors' which is the next in this talented guy's trilogy. I really can not wait.

I think Recht should get more praise than what ... Read More:

Laurell K Hamilton certainly has a way with words - her books draw you in and the reader never knows quite where the story is going next. These books are all very unpredictable with unexpected events unfolding and an ever-widening cast of characters.

The ever-widening epithet also describes Anita Blake's powers and responsibilities. Not content with 'merely' being a necromancer, as the books in this series have unfolded she has gained position as a lupa (female alpha wolf), leopard pack leader, vampire human servant and more. However this reader has found that the more this series continues, the more abstract and distant Anita Blake seems. In the first few books it was possible to identify with her as a woman trying to hunt monsters ... Read More:

this book is AMAZING. the title is a little cheesy, and puts a 'lame' sticker on the book, but once you read it, the book is great. some of the characters are a little superficial. a great teenage read. i would know, being a teenager and all. i'd recommend this to all my friends. in fact, i have, and i've turned them all into vampire-novel junkies. this book is a favourite with all of them.

Some books are so bad that you just can't finish them. This isn't one of those books. Which is unforunate as when you read it you constantly wish you weren't. It's just so average. It doesn't have the ability to sweep you back into the Victorian world that a Dickens, Collins or Conan Doyle does. The ghost stories are not at all spine-chilling. They just feel very tepid. Le Fanu also falls into the habit of a lot of 19th Century writers of constructing incredibly arcane, unnecessarily-long sentences, meticulously grammatical at the expense of clarity, and separated by so many commas that by the time one reaches the end of the sentence, should one manage to hold one's attention to that point, one has already forgotten what was being conveyed at the ... This narrative is another entertaining chapter in the story of Hellboy's life. It tells some more strange tales of his journies and shows a very dark and bleak view of the character4s that Hellboy comes across. In the same league and of the same high quality as the previous Hellboy volumes. Mignola is a beacon of his generation and this chapter is a good omen of more to come

In the sequel to Cirque Du Freak, Darren Shan is struggling to adjust to life as a vampire's assistant. Not only is he alone, but he faces death if he doesn't drink human blood. But hope comes along when Darren goes to work at the freak show.

Shan set down the marker with an impressive opening book to the saga. The writing wasn't brilliant but the ideology of the freak show and the people involved with it has made the saga intriguing and exciting and the use of this ideology is enough to bring the central protagonist and the plot to life in this good sequel.

Told in the first person, we get a glimpse into the thoughts of a typical teenager, only that he's a vampire, which adds a delicious twist to the conventional mind set, a more horrific ... Read More:

Well being a fan of the author Im going to be biased in his favour anyway.
I brought this book on the strength of the name.
I definately wasnt disapointed in the least and the ending made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up- fantastic.
Although this man writes for children I adore his books. This would suit adults as well who dont have a lot of time for reading but still enjoy it.
Ive ordered the rest of the series and have pre ordered the next installment of The order of five so I wont miss out.
Dont take my word for it read it yourself!!

After having read the mere 176-page original gothic tale of 1764, Horace Walpole's "The Castle of Otranto", I embarked on this 672-page equally-famous gothic fantasy by Ann Radcliffe, published thirty years later, and a best-selling literary phenomenon of its day.

The opening of Terry Castle's incisive introduction to the work notes that, "Perhaps no work in the history of English fiction has been more often caricatured." It is supposed to be "the greatest (or at least the most famous) of gothic romances ... has an archetypal `gothic villain' ... is loaded with exotic scenery ... [and] its heroine, a victim of `sensibility', faints a lot." But whilst common opinion may see it as "a bit of a `silly' book too", the conscientious reader must actually "feel a twinge ...
