wow
this book is utterly brilliant - unbelievably well written - completely gripping and compulsively readable.
i will be honest that i didn't expect great things after the slightly disappointing Gunslinger, but this 2nd volume in King's Magnum Opus just takes the piss. it is a million miles better than number 1. and has made me a Dark Tower fan in seconds.
it is basically three doors and a story of drawing sidekicks out of them for the enigmatic hero Roland. These characters are amazing and colorful, the world's they come from and the scenes they get embroiled in are readable and gripping. King crafts characters better than most any other writer i know and this is no exception - the intros to every character are huge - and ... Read More:

really awesome continuation of the Dark Tower series
the action is hotting up and the tower is closer...
This one is beautifully crafted and written yet again, full of interesting sidequests and shaped in a nice rounded narrative - there are things at the beginning that get solved at the end - everything that is introduced has a reason later on. its quite satisfying storytelling in that way.
overall - i'm still well intrigued about what could possibly happen in the next books. i still wanna find out about Roland and i still want to know what the Dark Tower really means
its a great series so far and i will soldier on. it aint hard wen the road is so interesting.
this one is full of apocalypse and action, the return of ... Read More:

56.Frankenstein: Or "The Modern Prometheus" - The 1818 Text (Oxford World's Classics) by: Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

Books : Frankenstein: Or "The Modern Prometheus" - The 1818 Text (Oxford World's Classics)
Inevitably dated by style and pace, not to mention a somewhat heavy-handed way with analogy, this remains a touchstone for gothic and speculative fiction. Any horror comes purely from the internal dialogues of Victor Frankenstein himself, and from the taunts of his creation, rather than from the kind of vivid and bloody description that is the mark of more contemporary scary stuff.

Some interesting questions rear their heads about science and desire, inception and revenge, not to mention some seemingly unintended ones - for a book by the daughter of an early anarchist and an early feminist, both women and politics are surprisingly absent. But worth a look.

I bought this book, Dark Prince, purely by accident in the shop in which I work in and I am glad I did. I am currently up to number nine in the series and absolutely cannot put them down! I was instantly engrossed in the plot and the developement of the relationship between the two main characters, Michail and Raven. I do feel however that this is not the best book in the series but still a very good read and a great introduction to the Carpathians saga. Each book does stand on its own but I would recommend reading this one first to fully emerse yourself in these brilliant books. An addicting and pleasurable read!

King's sixth book in the "Dark Tower" series picks up immediately where "Wolves of the Calla" left off, reinserting the reader into the world of the gunslinger and his travelling companions. They resume their quest for the Dark Tower with a great opening scene, and soon cutting to the absconded Susannah and her new passenger ...

Things progress smoothly and very competently in this penultimate volume, a shorter story than many of its predeccessors and more focused for it. The writing is condensed but not neglectful of the characters or the scenarios, and has all the fluidity and poetry of the previous volumes, although sadly not to the extent of the wonderful "The Gunslinger".

The novel benefits from the sense of movement and progress, ... Read More:

the only character that really jumped out at me that I wanted to read about was Gregori. I bought this sequel, in the hopes that this was who it was about. Let me tell you, it didn't matter. Shea and Jacques were great! The story line kept you deeply involved and thinking about what was going to happen the whole time. Even though you don't hear much about them in the first book, you really get involved with them in this one. Also, if you missed reading Tino Georgiou's masterpiece--The Fates, go and read it.
