Books : Antonio Carluccio's Italian Feast: Over 100 Recipes Inspired by the Flavours of Northern Italy
I have found this book to be a constant source of inspiration for my attempts liven up the boring bolognese and have used the spicy prawns with pasta on numerous occasions to great effect.

Many of the recipes do, however, require a little more than rudimentary cooking skill, a well stocked cupboard and often a little detective work to track down an obscure ingredient or a suitable alternative. The results of perseverance are worthwhile though.

Nothing I have tried from this book has failed: mazaresi (pistachio/orange cakes), almond biscuits, sea bass with lemon and olives, rosemary potatoes with cherry tomatoes and olives. Easy to follow and lots of photographs to picture somehting before you make it.

Books : The Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking
After a glass of pinot grigio or chianti I enjoy cyber shopping and have an embarrassing collection of cookery books, mostly destined for the charity shops. Every now and again I stumble on a classic that I will cherish and recommend. Marcella Hazan is not a celeb. tv chef and her book of 722 pages is soft back, on standard paper and without pictures. Having enjoyed universal success with several of her classic recipes you will realise that the glossy promoted cookery books deliver for the coffee table, not the dining table. I've bought a second copy of this book for a friend. You won't be disappointed.

I have given this book a prominent position on its bookshelf, along with some other well used cookbooks. This book is an impressive looking volume, an inch thick, and lovingly designed.

The first 26 pages describe the author's life growing up in the Italian Jewish community before WWII--a culture that hardly exists anymore.

As for the cuisine, it follows the mediterranean pattern, with, here and there, a strong suggestion of the middle east. Thus, anyone who enjoys mediterranean/ middle-eastern cuisine, will appreciate this book

An added bonus, is a chapter on "Breads, Pizzas and Bagels". In this chapter, you will find 23 recipes, inclouding Sourdough Bread, and three recipes for Chollah--that's the rich ... Read More:

This is a peach (grilled) of a publication which captures not only the spirit of the restaurant but his encyclopeodic knowledge and unique take on Italian epicurian delights. Not content to punt out a list of recipies and wait for the $$$$, he discusses the things which make Babbo special, including their philosophy on wine service and which dishes sell well on a Saturday night. Recipes are truly superb (and do-able), with something for all capabilities and seasons (or just to read and salivate over). For me Mario is way ahead of the other stars of the "New Italian" cuisine and if food is the new Rock and Roll, Gordon is Elton to Mario's Elvis. Vegas, 'natch.

This book is as enjoyable to read as it is to cook from. The stories from this world class restaurant alone are enough to keep you turning the pages in anticipation. The recipes are easy to follow and at the same time hard to screw up. I have found that almost every one of them can be subject to artistic liberty and still turn out magnificent. Gangivecchio is ahead of Saint Peters Basillica on my list of things to do the next time I am in the Mediterranean. I'm quite sure the Cannoli alone are worth the air fare.

Hi,

Having wanted to be a great cook for ages but having lacked the necessary skill and dedication I hacked my way through a few celeb chef books without learing too much and more often than not without being too impressed by the results.

This book it completely different the recipe's are simply fantastic, my 3 favoutire recipe's not come from this book. It shows you how to quickly and simply using, often only 3 or 4 ingredients, produce simply stunning results!

Makes cooking fun and relaxing whilst producing stunning results! Simply fantastic!
