great book as it covers not just Verona but some of the cities and towns nearby, like lake garda. There was so much backround history about the area, which is quite good when most of the signs are in italian, french and german! Also has an excellent section on restaurants and cafes, again not only in Verona but the surrounding areas. We had such a great time with this book, as we passed it between us saying "do you know that...?" as we went round some of the places in the book. Its also great to syche yourself up before the trip.

I used this book on 2 trips, I organised to the Dolomites.I would highly recommend it, good selection of walks, maybe some a bit on the short side, and lots of other information, such as details of where various buses go. Like any guidebook it is out of date as soon as published, and of course you need to buy a map for the area, but I going back to the Dolomites in July, and will take this book along, together with its companion, "walking in the Dolomites", (many of which can be done in a day).

Having read other books on Italy by Mayes, Dusi, Parks and Hawes I was looking for something else to read. I came across this book with it's mixed reviews so I bought a copy from Amazon Marketplace. For 97p you can't go wrong! I have to say that I can see both sides to the arguments but I would say that if you enjoy reading about other peoples attempts to intergrate into Italian life, because deep down you wish it was you doing it, then buy this book. Not the greatest read but enjoyable all the same

I am currently studying (and struggling with) Italian Unification at the moment so bought this book in the hope that it would shed some light on what exactly happened during unification, especially seeing as Heinemann is a pretty well known and reliable source. well...I'm not convinced, it has some really useful parts but the majority I found not to be that relevant to what I'm studying and the layout - black and white text, that's it - was a bit scary to plunge in to. If you're really desperate like me then I recommend you give it a go as you might take more from it than I have but bear in mind it's not hugely useful.

This is a marvellous book, The only guide you'll ever need. Everywhere in Milan worth going to, staying at or seeing is in here and anywhere that isn't, isn't. The photography is excellent, the writing is sublime. You don't have to bother going to Milan anymore, just get this book instead.
