Enjoyed this book; an easy, interesting read of a family's adventures around Europe; but the punctuation errors and spelling mistakes detracted from my enjoyment immensely.

a range of recipes some of which you will have seen before. I think the strength of this book is that it is so small (i.e. there's not hundreds of recipes) and so all it contains are dishes you'd actually want to cook and, possibly more importantly, those you can cook. Unlike other cook books, Aldo doesnt just show you the finished product and give you instructions on how to get there, he also gives you photographs of what the dish should look like at various stages so this gives you some condfidcence that what you are doing is right. If you've never cooked Italian before (and I have) then this is a good book to get you started - a book full of simple cooking, simply put !

Norman Lewis's son is a friend of mine and has been for twenty years. For twenty years I've drunk beer, watched football, told jokes and (in the dim & distant past) chased girls with the son. I even met the father once. It was not until I read the back of a Norman Lewis book last year & saw the picture, that I put two and two together. "Yep, that's my Dad". Astonishing! I read that book,A Dragon Apparent, and enjoyed it, but not really enough to run out & buy others. I dont read much travel writing in general but it was undeniably well written, interesting & felt it was doing me good. On a whim I bought this one, Naples 44, last week and it is a real step up. This book is great. Not only the reciepes are very good, not only the paper quality is excellent as well as the photos, it is the narrator who makes this book great. Giorgio put all his love for italian cuisine on this. This is not just a recipe book, this is a book about Italy and its history, it's a book about food and nutrition, it's a volume with tricks that only italian grandmothers know. I can only highly reccomend this book: you won't go wrong with it.

This guide may well be good for restaurants/nightlife but the descriptions of Rome's many monuments are very thin and unhelpful. Look elsewhere if you're planning to go and see the sights.

This is actually one of the books on the Mafia you SHOULD get. The main strong point being it's ability to explain the background of the mafia. It's also well written, this is good "story telling". If you get this you should complement it with "Excellent Cadavers" by Alexander Stille. Together they give you enough information to navigate further. Both of them deal with the Sicilian mafia, but concentrate on different periods.

i have only done a couple of the suggested walks and the detail is extraordinary. Also, the hints of how to arrive at the starting point helped me alot. and the fact that some of the walks are exactly what a outdoors enthusiast is after...namely the lesser known walks.
