Took this one with me to Venice. Did'nt really impress me. Would recommend getting a Lonelyplanet guide instead. But no real problems. Just like the lonelyplanet layout better.

This is the most wonderful book I've ever read. She is whitty, charismatic and her insights and paths are so similar to mine I was able to relate on every page. Even if this is not similar to your path (some of my happily or newly married friends were not fussed by it) she stresses the importance of getting in touch with who you really are and how to find you. I have bought about 10 of these books and have given them to friends around the world from all walks of life. Amazing book I give it my highest recommendation.

The green Michelin guides are a classic reference, but I'm not an unconditional fan. This guide is nearly 300-pages long and covers everything you might need to make your visit a success. I bought this guide not so much for the regions or famous cities, but for the occasional visit to a small place like Parma, Como or Trento. I lived in Italy for some years, and I speak Italian, and there are far better Italian guides out there when visiting Florence or Rome. So this guide is useful, but not more than that.

I agree with the other reviewer - I too had access to a few different guides on my recent trip to Rome and wasn't even sure if I would take the Blue Guide as it looked a little uninpiring with just tons and tons of text - I admit to liking a book with a few nice pictures and easy to use lists of things to see etc. However, this ended up being the book I used most. Rome is such a fascinating place with so much history and meaning and frankly, the other books were pretty useless apart from giving you something to flick through and see what you may be interested in doing (apart from the Eyewitness guide which gives a map of the Sistine Chapel roof- clearly explaining each of the pictures - well worth having).
