While the book is good for core information (hotels, where to go, etc.) it is pretty out of date as a guide to cafes, restaurants and even in terms of prioritising sites. We walked around finding one cafe after another either not existing any more, under new (chain/franchise) ownership, or lacking the character described in the book. Restaurant listings are out of date with prices having shot up tremendously in those listed as affordable. The site descriptions are also of uneven quality. The Villa Spada, described as one of the most beautiful palaces on the outskirts of Bologna, is now a tired old dilapidated building, with peeling paint and covered in graffitti. Bought this book for a trip to Genoa and needn't have bothered. Expected more from Berlitz, but the book is inaccurate, very sketchy and on the end of the first day it went unceremoniously into the bottom of my suitcase and we had to go on the internet to get proper information on the city. What information was in the book was in a very poor order and not in-depth at all. For example, there was a two sentence recommendation to go up a funicular to get great views of the city - but the name of where the funicular went from was wrong and there was no information at all about where the track went, what was at the top (as it turned out when we tracked it down, nothing!), how to buy tickets etc... all the usual stuff you would hope to get from a ... I used this book for a four day visit to Rome. It is excellent. It does not have photos, the plans are small and it is quite dense. However, its virtues far outweigh any deficiencies. It fits snugly into one's pocket and has a wealth of interesting and useful information. One can turn any street corner in Rome and see something one wants to know about; and nine times out of ten, this guide book has it there with all the relevant facts and anecdotes.

However, and I can't stress this enough, the maps were inaccurate and had enormous overlaps on which made it VERY difficult to navigate from. Also the names on the map helpfully donot correspond with the names on the allies. (It does point this out in the guide)
