I, like most, was a big fan of the MASH TV series, and having had a bit of a review of it, decided to see what reading there was out there and came across this.

It is a true perspective of a MASH surgeon, and I for one found it unputdownable, and found myself realising both how alike and how different this book and the series were.

Apel worked as a consultant on the TV series, which I guess is where a lot of the comparisons come from, but I would recommend it as a stand alone book in it's own right - and it certainly shows that not all the time in the MASH was fun and games!

In an overall sense, this is an outstanding book. Uncertain Partners deals with many of the issues surrounding the nations of China, Russia, and Korea immediately following WWII. The authors, a Russian presidential advisor and two Stanford political scientists, reveal and report about many of the confidential documents of Stalin, Mao Zedong and Kim Il Sung. These documents, never before seen previous to the 1990s, describe the inner-workings and deep-seeded relationship between Stalin and Mao. In many ways, Stalin and Mao were uncertain partners. The authors makes the reader understand that Mao was simply a puppet of Stalin and his form dictatorial communism. For a greater understanding of this partnership, I would undoubtably ... Read More:

Gen. Matthew Ridgeway is so full of himself that he cannot err. He is quick to point out his perfection by comparing himself to others of his calling, and although forced by history and fact to admit the other fine leaders of the 8th army did actually perform well in Korea, he is obviously reluctant to write of anything unless the sentence begins with "I". His book is garbage, and I'm ashamed to have served under him in that war.
