This is an excellent book for a beginner who wishes to go beyond the typical phrase book/audio materials. The way this book is written; the reader, even with a very basic knowledge in French, can understand, get the general idea and relate to the stories and facts presented. The sentences and phrases used in the book, particularly in the first sections (Julie and Marc in Paris), are constructed in an easy to understand manner. They, in a clever way, avoid the use of more complex grammatical features. Only a very basic French grammar would be required to read this book. The entertaining feature of the book combined with its straight forward sentence structure encourages the learner to read further and construct new knowledge and understanding ... Read More:

This is probably the worse course book I have ever seen. The audio bounces around the chapters so it is very difficult to follow the audio. They introduce new words without giving examples to whether it is der die or das. For all you teachers out there, this may seem quite adequate (as most teachers seem to have an elitist attitude), but for us students this is a real pain in the rear! You have to keep referring to the glossary, which really takes the fun out of learning German. As all you are really learning is now to navigate the glossary efficiently. Well, as you can imagine, by the fifth time of flipping to the glossary you're getting bored and you end up wondering off to do something more interesting. Save your money and buy the Michel Thomas ... Read More:

I fully praise this product for differing from the over populated language learning tools market. While the market has many examples of good books and CDs, they are yet to be combined in such a way as this.

The only fault I could really mention is that with the CD refering to the books a lot, it wouldn't be a viable purchase for learning in the car or on the move, for example. You'll need the time to put in to learning your chosen language, but should you put the time in it will pay off.

I bought this for my four year old when he started school in reception. It is brilliant. Not only does the book make it really easy to sound out and 'blend' the words, but the huge poster helps him recognise the phonemes. The DVD makes putting together what we have learned from the book so much easier, and he sounds out the letters in the same way as the presenter from the 'Fun With Phonics' TV programmes which were shown on CBeebies last year. I would totally recommend buying this pack, along with the other 2, its great value from Amazon for what you get.

This has to be the best learning tool ANYONE can use when attempting to learn Hiragana. I have just started to learn Japanese and felt it important to learn both Hiragana and Katakana. Over the past week I have been using this for about an hour a day and have already attained near fluency in Hiragana.....PAINLESSLY!
Seriously I have just worked through each page and am astounded with the results! I felt it would take months of dilligent study to remember the "countless" Hiragana, but the brilliantly structured approach and clever excercises made it SO easy I just had to share my feelings. While only half way thorough the book I was SO impressed I decided to purchase both the "Let's Learn Katakana" and "Let's Learn Kanji" from the same series.

If you've studied a reasonable amount of NLP and body language before you'll probably find this book covers too much old ground without really going in to detail - for example the chapter on body language offers you nothing other than stating obvious facts such as a person's facial expressions can give you clues to what they're really thinking.

That said this book is very helpful in improving communication with others. Even if you've studied body language and NLP there's still information that's new with a fresh angle that I have never heard of before. In particular how we unintentionally present blocks to people and how to encourage responses from others. I've started implementing the few golden nuggets and have noticed some tangible results. ... Not having learnt french since school (GCSE/GCE) I found the stories easy enough to get the general story line but complex enough to challenge and revise my knowledge of the language - and extend it. The parallel text is just fantastic you don't lose interest constantly having to look words up in a dictionary. Would strongly recomend this book for intermediates.

I have been wanting to study Arabic for some time and have been looking to find a suitable text book to assist me. I have tried some of the more popular choices i.e. "teach yourself...." and find them not be useful. This is different with its accomponied DVD media it provides and interactive experience which gels well with the excersises in the book.

Although the Book states it is for beginners I would definatly advise new comers to get to grips with the basic alphabet and principles of reading arabic script. This book assumes you know how to read Arabic Script as this follows on from the precursor book Alif Baa.

Once you have got over this hurdle you will find that the tasks are well organised and conterary to some reviews do develop your ability to start ... Read More:
