As a professional copywriter and senior lecturer in advertising, I cannot believe that this turgid treatise is still being touted as some seminal work that offers insights into how professional advertising works. Pseudo-academic, pretentiously obscure (perhaps to obscure its confused thinking?), and terribly dated (written by a young Marxist back in 1978 as her university dissertation and never revised since). Do yourself a favour and read something more relevant and entertaining, unless you want to become another dull Media Theory lecturer rambling on about Structuralism and Semiotics and in thrall to French linguistic philosophers whose clouded vision presumably resulted from smoking all those Gauloises.

Not a very balanced book, tending to press its own agenda instead. Written in a slightly repetitive and even, on occasion, condescending and presumptious tone. Overall a rather amateur effort that doesn't justify the price tag, though as a simple-to-read taster for the field I suppose it is acceptable.

A potentially dry subject matter dealt with simply and effectively. This book won't nessessarily encourage you to become a company secretary (so many forms to fill out), but it will give you an insight and simple guide to the duties. I would recommend this for any first time company secretary. Having read it myself it was an eye opener to what a person performing this role has and ought to do in order to ensure their company is well run and compliant with the law.

I found the book good, but if you are doing undergrad you will need more to understand the cases and examples this book cites. I would recomend it for GCE level law, and advanced level to help the student learn the basics.

Even ---- a number of no doubt equally crafty and learned teachers have taken a look pre-publication [their names and law schools appear in a list at front of book]. All of this shows. I ask only that the online updating service continues as it has started; it is so useful to have that facility - one just feels more informationally secure when it's there! My thanks go to Ms Clarke and Ms Greer - buy the book, and you will be equally grateful I bet!
