I bought this book 3 years ago before starting my LLB, and bought it again last week as I hope to study for an LLM next year and wanted to brush up on my legal skills. The book is very good at getting a prospective law student to think like a lawyer. It sets out very well the areas that a student needs to know about, such as judicial precedent, statutory interpretation and the now unavoidable influence of the European Union and the European Convention on Human Rights on English law. Two minor criticisms. Firstly, I think the authors do not clarify or explain certain topics enough, especially as this is aimed at students who have not yet studied Law. The shortest and most focussed of the three LNAT books I have tried, although lacks a bit of detail in places and some of the material on grammar doesn't seem to quite make sense. The sample MCQs were generally quite useful. A couple were a bit ambiguous but on the whole worth trying. Better explanations might have helped, but everything reads fine. Overall certainly worth a look, but not the best of the books I cam across.

1. the books aimed at those that watch CSI et al and would like to know a little bit more 2. those aimed at undergraduates and other students 3. those aimed for use by "proper" forensic scientists This book is firmly in the first catagory (there is nothing wrong with that) i agree with another reviews remark that this should not form the basis of any reserch (part of a degree is the diserning of relevent info at the right level) however if the odd student needs this book as a starting point to understand the question prior to reserch then ive never seen a problem. However i would not recomend Jackson and Jackson as a "better introduction" more rather Crime scene to court, or possibly Forensic ... Read More:

I could say that this is a "Whirlwind of a book, transporting the reader into a world of action and adventure"... however I'd be lying. You buy this book because you have to. However, if you do need to know what the laws and regulations pertaining to water really are, this is your book - and God have mercy on your soul. Everything you need to know is in here but its layout leaves a huge amount to be desired and it can take eons to actually find the section you want. Once you have found the relevant section you have to decipher the text, which was definitely influenced by members of the legal profession and as such occasionally makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.

I tended to read cases on Lexis Nexis, but this was useful when those cases were very long/complicated. Also good for foreign cases, which can be more difficult to find.

I found Branston and Stafford's Media and Students Book, extremely helpful to me in my first year of studying media studies. Quoting several different scholars and theorists, to back up some well thought out and well explained ideas behind media. It was an excellent stepping stone for me and a platform to read more advanced media books, as this one was the foundation or the ground floor of media books, it covers the basics of media. Overall a good read and highly reccommended.

Even though an 825 page book could hardly be called "In Brief" it is a pleasant change to find an author who is able to write something about a very regulatory subject in such a readable manner. There have been many books written in the past about the English and Welsh Building Act and its associated Building Regulations, but many authors seem to completely miss the point and try to turn their books into their life's literary work and soapbox. This fifth edition is a really worthwhile book and I have no hesitation in giving it a five star recommendation.
