If you're bored of mashed potato or boiled carrots, this book will provide you with plenty of ideas on how to prepare vegetables in a new, original way. I have tried many lovely dishes from this book; my favourites are the carrots boiled in cream and basil (absolutely delicious), the layered potato and tomato pie, celery risotto, chard and mushroom fettucine (I've never liked chard very much and I loved this dish!), the orange and fennel salad, lentil soup with butternut squash and fennel, the pear, parmesan and celery salad, and many more. All ingredients are easy to find in your local shop and rely on good quality olive oil and balsamic vinegar to bring out the tatste of the vegetables rather than soaking them in tons of mayonnaise or salad ... 116.The "Sopranos" Family Cookbook by: Allen Rucker, Michele Scicolone

Books : The "Sopranos" Family Cookbook
Someone bought me this as a present, as I am very fond of 'The Sopranos'. The formula is to present a series of recipes allegedly edited by Artie Bucco with interjections from various Sopranos regulars (Janice remembering mealtimes at home as a child, Carmela on entertaining for a large number of guests, Tony giving his views on the conduct of a sucessful barbecue, Bobby defending food for the big guy, and so on). Compared to the series it's unsubtle, but fun too, and well illustrated with pictures of the cast and some of the dishes. Certainly one to recommend to afficianados. Oh, and the recipes do work ; I've tried some of them.

Books : The Essentials of Classic Italian Cooking
After a glass of pinot grigio or chianti I enjoy cyber shopping and have an embarrassing collection of cookery books, mostly destined for the charity shops. Every now and again I stumble on a classic that I will cherish and recommend. Marcella Hazan is not a celeb. tv chef and her book of 722 pages is soft back, on standard paper and without pictures. Having enjoyed universal success with several of her classic recipes you will realise that the glossy promoted cookery books deliver for the coffee table, not the dining table. I've bought a second copy of this book for a friend. You won't be disappointed.
