I bought this book on a whim and enjoyed it so much. It's got a lot packed into it, and it's a fairly slim book! I actually bought it same time as The Ultimate Visual Guide to Star Wars by Ryder Windham (the one with Darth Vader on the cover), and to be honest, it's a much better book; because it serves not just as a visual dictionary, but as a visual guide to boot. Well worth buying for any Star Wars lover out there!

This is a lovely item for the Madonna collector or fan, but I honestly don't see anybody else buying it. The blurb cites exclusive never seen before pics, but really that boils down to about 2 backstage shots, the majority of the book being filled with endless permutations of live shots we all saw when she was on tour. I'm quite disappointed with how soft focus & airbrushed 99% of the pics are. The whole Madonna Live experience is about raw energy, not fluffy perfection! On top of that a lot of the shots are just plain out of focus! This whole thing feels a lot like a vanity project for Guy Oseary who knows 'the fans' will snap it up no matter how good or bad it actually is!

Overlong, definitely, verbose, definitely, showing off, definitely, but within all that, a readable book (at least I found it so and I am very quick to give up on books!) and an honest appraisal of a wonderful man, who came to us to make us laugh, even through his ill health and problems with drink. His many problems with his agent were perhaps over detailed but the relationship was essential to Tommy's career. A few more anecdotes from other comics would have helped but overall I was glad I read it and I don't say that lightly, as anyone reading my reviews will know ... !

I bought this book hoping for an intelligent incite into the evolution of Blur that resulted in the last 3 records (my personal favorite), but instead I found myself sifting through pages and pages of tales from the Groucho or Browns or Claridges or wherever James had decided to waste his money that year. What I found hardest to swallow was the sense of delight and pride he took in describing his cliched rock and roll antics (hopefully I'm not just jealous!) I think what summed James was when he mentioned that as far side projects go, he made a football chant called Vindaloo and Damon Albarn came up with the Gorillaz. Says it all really.

This made me laugh each time I opened it up - such a simple idea but when you try to do it yourself it's just not the same... coolest Xmas present of the year for the coolest coffee tables!

I have this for my 8 year old daughter who is working towards her grade 1 exam. She finds the easiest pieces playable but difficult due to 3 finger cords and lots of hand postion changes. I would recommend this for grade one and above , at grade 1 you could play the simpler pieces which are well set and aproved my my daughters piano teacher.

I was very, very lucky to have recently acquired this monumental book from another seller in France, and to top it all it was a copy from the first print run, so it included both the CD and the strip of the 70 mm print from '2001: A Space Odyssey' - this one's from the sequence of the round space shuttle being brought down on the moving platform into an inner trench in the Moon base! Those two items alone would be worth the cost of this pricy volume, and they certainly add to its extraordinary overall quality, for this book is all around printed with the finest of materials. What a read! An outstanding new book about the Fab Four. Great eye witness accounts and never before seen pictures of the Beatles in Scotland BEFORE they became the phenomenon we know. This book deserves a 5-Star rating and is a MUST for every Beatles fan across the globe.

This is the most enjoyable Betjeman book I've ever read - a book that's so good, it ought to be part of the English Literature curriculum. More than that: it ought to be read by everyone applying for British citizenship! In the course of 360 pages, Betjeman plunges you into what he regarded as the major issues of English identity - issues of aesthetics, civic duty, relations with authority, and individuality. I suppose that all these ideas are contained in Betjeman's poetry, but there one tends to get distracted into noticing rhythm and metre and scansion. And Betjeman's poetic ideas are smaller. Here, although the writing is often lyrical, he addresses topics in a much more direct way. He cares that unvalued townscapes are being destroyed, that there might be collusion between ...
