The language may be a bit dated but the advice is still good, proving there is little new in the world of investing. If you follow Graham's practical advice on valuing companies, assessing risk and investing for the long term you will make money.

If you do not own any pub guides, including previous editions of this one, I would recommend this one highly - it only includes pubs of a high standard (and doesn't just focus on the BEER) and covers the whole country with impressive breadth. Even the lucky dip pubs are usually the better pubs in town - I've rarely been disappointed by one.
BUT... if you own any of the previous few editions of the Good Pub Guide I see absolutely no point in buying this. It is slightly frustrating the way the Guide never changes much. This could be a signifier of good standards, but it isn't flexible enough. So many great pubs are not included (this edition has no place for The Flask in Highgate, one of the best pubs in north London) and yet year after year many of ... Read More:

From the first page to the last, an absolutely compelling novel. The voice of Engleby is wonderful, arrogant and biting but lonely and compelling. The evocation of Cambridge in the seventies makes you feel you are there (which sounds awful, as though it this was something precious, precisely the opposite of what it is). And very gradually, you start to see the truth, a truth which is inevitable but which you can hardly bear to believe. Then read the last page, and let a tingle touch your spine....

This is one of the recommended texts for the certificate in counselling skills, which I am taking. It is very easy to read, and has some great examples, as well as bringing up some challenging issues for would be counsellors to help them to determine whether counselling would be for them. Perhaps some of the examples are a little extreme, but it does provide wonderful food for thought. Structurally, it follows and describes the person-centred approach one step at a time, and is therefore a good textbook for a course. If you are thinking about person centred counselling as a training or career option, this would be a good way to introduce yourself to the topic.

I found this book really useful for filling all the gaps on my PGCE year. It dips into education theory in more depth than our lectures did, but is not so pretentious or jargon-filled that I struggled with it. I also found the accompanying Readings for Reflective Teaching useful- especially as resource for essays or for trying to get your head around Vygotsky or Piaget in their own words.

Having just renewed my interest in slow cookers I bought this book based on amazon reviews. Some of the receipes are interesting but you will spend time having to research what some of the ingredients are. This is fine but I thought the whole point of owning a slow cooker was to save time! This book was written for the amercian market and probably makes a lot more sense there.

I love Julia Donaldson's books because they entertain the adult as well as the child. They hold us spellbound on the settee as we revel in the rhymes and sway with the rhythms. My five year old boy loves Tyrannosauruses and my 4 year old girl likes the families of dinosaurs and the tiny egg-carrying Compognathus. Even when I'm tired, I feel better after reading one of JD's masterpieces aloud, and the little ones go to bed content because there's always a happy ending.

This book has added hours to my week!
I didn't find all the ideas useful, and yes the book is padded out with the authors ideas of how to fill your newly found time (non of which interested me) but its well worth having in your collection.
Some of the ideas are so simple that I kicked myself; I have since spoken to many very successful people and found non that have used them but all thought they were great!
Even if this book only gives you back an hour of two a week, It will be well worth the cover price!

It takes me a while to get involved in books but this one I stuck with. Although the idea behind it was good there is no real story, and eventually the writer goes off at a tangent and is not talking about the present story line, but another one set 50 years in the past.

He also spends far too much time describing the 'passion' between the two lead characters which seemed to come from no where but still be a dominant part of the story for some reason.

I think the writer was too involved in this story, and as such kept leading off at tangents which ultimately made me lose interest.
