This book is great, if you love fables, parables, good humour, little known truths about the state of our planet and us then you will love this. It is so unique and funny, a little sad in places, amazing teachings, a real philosophers gem. There is something in this book for everyone as most of my family and friends of various age, gender and walk of life have a copy. Highly recommended for the enlightened, unenlightened and soon to be enlightened. What more can I say.

The Last Cigarette is the third volume of playwright Simon Gray's diaries which he began with The Smoking Diaries.back in 2004. Its not easy to categorise these books - I've chosen "diaries", for most of the time they record daily events over the course of a year or so, but also slip back to descriptions of events in the past. The free-form, conversational style gives the reader the impression that he's almost feel that you're listening to Simon Gray while chatting in a bar - which is not surprising because apparently he writes his diaries on an A4 pad, whenever he finds himself alone in a café, bar or hotel room.

The diaries contain a wide range of topics - descriptions of holidays in Greece and Barbados, the period when his ... Read More:

I must admit I am reading the novels in order. Why I waited so much to do so I will never know. Guess having seen the films in my youth (I mean the Sean Connery one's... Moore's slapstick was not here not there) put away the idea for too long.

What a mistake.

Fleming created out of the blue a new kind of thriller, outrageous, with really well thought villains, and a fatalistic hero that is not so cool blooded as in the films. There is a great "M" character, and much less gimmicks and silly artifacts in the novels. And of course the BIG PREMIUM of getting inside Bond's thoughts...

I can not say if truly this three volume omnibus is the peak of the saga, up to now I must agree, everybody says so, and they ... Read More:

to the true genius of this man. He understood it like no other to capture the spirit of his century, to describe the true face of womanhood and to portrait society as a whole with all his flaws and good sides. Having only read his main oeuvre, i.e. The Picture of Dorian Gray, and few of his short stories, I could impossibly comment on his poetical work. Yet, his prose work identifies him as a true genius and the price of this book doesn't do justice to his life work. Still, to the morally flexible, lacking every sense of honor and respect for this man's art, I strongly advise the seize the occasion and order the book. It's a must-have.

This book is quite entertaining, it tries to give a synopsis of the Discworld and the books of Terry Pratchett, and it does it well.

The author has taken the books and looked at the mythology and lore relating to the certain aspects of each book. I have a problem with a couple of the "Americanised" versions of why certain things have been included, and especially the inaccruate ones, but I may be being pedantic.

The errors and omissions from his book are not substantial, just sometimes a little irritating, and the book has obviously been written from an American perspective for the growing American readership of Discworld books. This does not detract from the from what is one of the best discworld guides I've ever read.

I found this book a very interesting and enjoyable read. The author discusses literary fiction under a number of themes and he usually has a page of fiction taken form the work of a particular author and he then spends several pages discussing aspects of this. He takes extracts from a large number of authors and their works and these range from eighteen century novelists right up to contemporary novelists. I already had the vast bulk of the works that he discussed in my collection but there were several that I hadn't either purchased or read before (not always the same things as far as I am concerned). I ordered a set of three novels in one volume by Henry Green and another one by Michael Frayn on the strength of reading this book.

i havn't got my results back for my English Lit GCSE but i'm quietly confident.I got an a star in the mock on the revision of this book alone as it goes into all the questions posed by golding throughout the ingenious novel. i've used numerous guides and helpers but this is one of the best i've used. All you need to know...could do with a few more concise quotes though...so i'll give it 4.

I bought this book to help me with my English GCSE coursework and loved the fact that it was far more advanced than the York Notes intended for GCSE level. Though I only needed a certain section of information for my essay, (regarding my title) this book was very helpful and worth the purchase. Everything is set out clearly in differnet sections and it gives an impressive historical background to the play.
With the help of this book and other sources I managed to not only get an A* on my Death of a Salesman coursework but full marks.
