A very useful story and full of insights. Graves is very matter of fact about the most horrific aspects of the war - summary executions, soldiers wanting to kill their officers, officers who shot one of their own soldiers to persuade the others to leave the trench and attack, alcoholic officers who sent hundreds to their deaths, accidental deaths and deaths from our own sides guns. In a very detached style, we see all the horror involved.

He explains the strict hierarchy of society and of the army at the time. Yet, although he is obviously disillusioned with the war, he speaks as an old soldier, who believes in discipline, who cannot help but feeling that Britain is justified. Si whil he explains that those sections of the army ... Read More:

A year or so ago, my friend introduced me to Vampire Knight, and I used to read it online, but, when I found out it was out in book form, I bought 2 volumes of it. And of course, I still enjoyed every moment of it.

The basic setting is a boarding school (Cross Academy) attended by both humans and vampires (who, by the way, are not the undead, just a seperate species from us - also, their existence is a secret in this universe, like it is in most vampire novels). Vampires attend the Night Class, and humans attend the Day Class.

The Chairman of the academy, Kaien Cross, adopted a young girl called Yuuki 10 years ago, when she was left out in the freezing snow, and attacked by a crazed vampire - however, she was saved in the ... Read More:

In these by times highly emotional essays written in the 1930s and 1940s George Orwell gives us with in depth analyses his personal viewpoint on the literary, political and socio-economic scene.

In literature, he sees the novel as `a Protestant form of art, a product of the free mind, of the autonomous individual.' Orwell's aim was to `push the world in a certain direction: a battle against totalitarianism and for democratic Socialism.'
In his criticism he searches for the essential (hidden) message of the author.
Dickens's rather naïve creed is: `If man would behave decently, the world would be decent.' His ideal is `a hundred thousand pounds, a quaint old house, a sweetly womanly wife, a horde of children and no work.'

This is of corse the basis for modern evolutionary works ,that being so it's not quite acurate to todays knowlege so this book is more of a historical book. This particular book is of good quality and structure with detailed image of the different species used as examples.

Giving Tristram Shandy a 1-star review makes me shudder, but I feel it's imperative that everyone knows this edition comes without -any- notes. If you're widely read and know a bit about the period this might not be a huge problem, but even then you're probably going to miss a lot with Sterne, who is a very allusive writer. I recommend getting another edition, most will come with notes.

If you've read/are reading the dark tower series do not expect anything new. Having just finished volume 4 i picked up the graphic novel which was basically an illustrated version of the events of 4. Don't get me wrong the artwork is supreme (as one would expect from marvel) and comic isn't bad. BUT it's like reading the book i just finished again. Ultimatly i didnt finish the graphic novel as i didnt feel the need to. The story is good though so perhaps after a while i'll be able to read it. For the moment it remains on my shelf.

In ordering this copy of 'A Streetcar Named Desire,'i was primarily expecting this book to be purely a textual dialogue of the play. Although after recieving the book (with haste- i don't hesitate to add), i was pleasantly surprised to encounter aids and prompts explaining in detail the situations and literary devices used to create such an effect. I totally believe that this book is a must have for those studying the american book at AS Level, or at any level for that matter!
