This is a biography that works as a fascinating and moving story in its own right. Claire Tomalin uses every available scrap of evidence to put together a surprisingly convincing portrait of Jane Austen as a (then) largely unrecognised genius and thoroughly professional writer, who was nonetheless an active member of a large and interesting family. The book dispels a lot of myths - including the long-held notion that Jane was writing about her own life in those six perfectly-crafted novels. Far from being a quietly contented domestic being, she is shown to be an observer, almost an outsider, in Regency society - someone who could be quite uncomfortable to have around, with her sharp observations and witticisms - but deeply appreciated by ... This is an important book that everyone should read. I would give it twenty stars if I could.

I've long been interested in both art and comic books (I have collected them for over 50 years). While the library shelves are full of wonderful books that explain what traditional artists are trying to do and why they succeed, I've often found the books to be pretty boring. In recent years, such books have gotten bogged down into abstruse language that is much less appealing than the art which is the subject.

But in those years, I've never seen anything that was very helpful in discussing the rules of comic art, except some books about pop art when that was popular that examined how the pop art was different from comic art. Naturally, ... Read More:

I decided to read "Othello" after enjoying "Hamlet",another one of Shakespeare's celebrated tragedies. I must admit that I did not enjoy "Othello" quite as much however. It's plot is quite complicated; labyrinthine at times, and much of it's language is obscure and hard to follow . The play concerns itself with the endeavours of the thoroughly malevolent and evil Iago to destroy the Moorish Venetian general Othello, his boss. He does so by poisoning Othello against his innocent wife Desdemona. He convinces him that his wife is having an affair with Othello's deputy (and Iago's rival) Cassio. Othello takes the bait and duly obliges Iago by becoming filled up with hatred of his wife which eventually leads to a tragic ending and a series of untimely deaths . The ... Read More:

There are so many excellent reasons to adore this book; the spoof of Philip Larkin's most famous verse is worth the cover price by itself. then there's a riposte to Allan Ginsberg's "howl", a reply to Cavafy's "Ithaca" (in the style of Leonard Cohen, yet!)and, oh bliss oh joy, a Molesworth version of "A Shropshire Lad". It also works as a somewhat different anthology of poetry on its own merits, but the "answers" give the originals a whole different dimension. I'm buying this for people who like poetry, and more importantly, for some who don't!!

What a book! it's the first book I've read in ages that actually made me laugh out loud and I had to stop reading it in the park during my lunch hour as I'm sure the local people thought I was mad!! It brought back a lot of happy childhood memories and more so as my family knew a 'clippie' like this on the local trams - happy days. If you're from Glasghow or the surrounding areas you will love this book. Happy reading.

The fourth volume to the hit Death Note manga series just gets even better in this volume. In it the battle of minds gets even bigger when we meet a new Kira. This means the fight of Light (Kira I) and L is going to get alot harder.

It is the new classic manga and every manga fan should at least try it out.

I achieved an A grade using this guide, so I will firstly state that is guide is a fantastic resource for revsion.
I like the language within the guide, as it was not too simple or too complex which usually puts me off revising.
The guide is easy to digest and the interpretations within the guide gain higher grades for the user within the exam, as it is interpretations that the examiner looks for.
I like the size of the guide, as the small size meant that I could easily pop it in my tote bag while travelling meaning that if I had a few minutes spare, I could revise from the guide.
I also liked the techniques that advised the reader what to do within the book, which I found useful as I often found that teacher jargon was too vauge.
