Required to read Henry for my AP English Language class, I came into the play with a bias. I honestly felt that it would be a boring political play. I was utterly wrong! A huge fan of Shakespeare, I found Henry V to be a formidable match for the Bard's more critically acclaimed plays, such as Hamlet and Macbeth. Henry has it all! Shakespeare's attitude toward Henry the King is certainly one of admiration. By communicating the fact that an effective monarch must have a complete understanding of the common subjects (Pistol and Bardolph and Quickly), Shakespeare sets up Henry to be the ideal Christian king. The controlled language of Henry's speeches, particularly his response to the Dauphin's idiotic insult, also glorifies Henry. I certainly ... Read More:

Having introduced a second Kira in the last volume, this volume concentrates on her and how she effects the investigation. Misa herself is somewhat annoying but quite likable and her Shinigami Rem shows us not all Death Gods are as unfeeling as Ryuk. Although still highly enjoyable and thoroughly entertaining, I did not enjoy this volume of Death Note as much as I have the previous volumes; although it is still better than anything else I have read and is well worth five stars. I cannot put my finger on what is wrong but throughout much of the beginning and middle of the book, it seemed somewhat lacking but thankfully it does pick up toward the end and the cliff-hanger ending will almost definitely want to make you seek out the next book.

In some respects I think it'd be rather presumptuous of me to attempt to review Shakespeare. Someone so well known and influential wouldn't benefit from my opinions on their work, plus there are more scholarly and concise reviews out there. But I can comment on these Arden versions. Of all the Shakespeare I've read I've always found the Arden copies to be well laid out and to have excellent commentary and notes on the text. They really add to your understanding of Shakespeares outstanding plays and introduce you to the depth in his work. They have superb paper quality and are bound well, withstanding repeated readings and intensive study. For your collection of Shakespeare you can't do much better than Arden publications, some are quite hard to get hold ... Read More:

Are you tired of self-help manuals? Is that because the authors often seem to need help themselves? Or they all spout the same buzzwords and clichés? Or they are banal and boring? It sounds as if you are all self-help-manualed-out. Perhaps you need something different. Try Marcel Proust, revered master of exquisite expression and luminous prose. In Search of Lost Time, also called Remembrance of Things Past, Proust's one-and-a-quarter-million-word magnum opus, does not contain a trite sentence or conventional thought. You can learn much about living from such a profound genius, including how to spend your time, how to see and feel things, and why, sometimes, it is best just to stay in bed. Alain de Botton is your witty, often hilarious guide, providing valuable ... Read More:

My two year-old son loves animals and this book is an absolute winner. The illustrations are gorgeous and the rhymes about each animal are wonderful. He could recite them all within days - to hear him saying "I'm the rockin' rooster baby" is a scream! I think this will be a favourite for a long time to come.

This book is incredibly boring.

This Shakespeare guy is way over-rated.

it is written in old English so you need an other book to simply translate it's text. In this day and age you would be insane to read this for fun. Rent a blu-ray disc or go to the cinema or something.

On the other hand if you are doing it for school then I guess you have to buy it.

If you are new to the works of Samuel Beckett then this is the best place to start in my opinion. There is nothing I can add which hasn't already been said about these dramas, only that they are quite short and moderately accessible but almost inexhaustable in their complexity. To describe these works as 'existentialist' really doesn't do them justice or decribe their nature to any deep degree. The plays are unique and must be experienced to be understood. Generally there is a quite dark tone to most of the works, sometimes obscenely disturbing, sometimes cynically funny but at times there are moments of true poetic beauty. I would strongly recommend these plays to anyone interested in drama of a more unconventional type. High points include - 'Waiting for Godot', 'Endgame', ... Read More:

Although still a marvellous read the previous volume of Death Note had something of a filler feel to it but thankfully this sixth volume sees this excellent manga series back on top form. Having identified that the new Kira is among seven individuals working for Yotsuba Light, L and the rest of the taskforce must find a way to get the evidence of how Kira kills his victims before the move in on the seven. When Misa is sent to get close to the seven the Shinigami Rem complicates things by revealing itself to her and Misa comes up with a plan of her own.

This volume is probably one of my favourite to date with some great action and some nice plot twists. It is also good seeing the Shinigami again after there brief hiatus in the last volume, and we also learn some ... Read More:

In this ninth volume of the excellent Death Note series, Light Yagami conceives a plan that could potentially halve his opposition at a stroke and bring his perfect world one step closer. He moves against Mello but not everything goes as planned and Light discovers that Near may be closer to the truth than is comfortable. Despite this Kira is making progress with the general public and this opens new possibilities for Light to manipulate.

Death Note continues to weave plans within plans, with all three of the main characters trying to out do each other in cunning. This volume does see some good twists and some surprising losses that could shake things up slightly. Overall Death Note remains a very well written and carefully plotted series that is a cut above ... Read More:
