The Prophet is about a mysterious religious thinker who is about to leave for his native land. Before he goes, many people have just one question to ask him. In a very few words, he tells them his accumulated wisdom primarily in a nondenominational way. The only exceptions come in the references to rebirth. The essence of each brief lesson is that we have to step outside of our own perspective to see things in the way that God does and wants us to.

Let me give you an example. When someone transgresses either man's laws or God's laws, we tend to condemn the person harshly and focus on punishment. This is like treating the person as though they have fallen below some level of what it is still to be human. Yet no one does anything ... Read More:

Insanely funny. Two witty ladies at their peak.

I hope there are more volumes of this series to come.

I wish someone would have the idea of having them do this LIVE on stage as a one-night only performance.

I made the mistake of getting this and thinking it would pass the time on a long motorway journey.

Huge error on my part! I was discovered by a very kind traffic police officer on the hard shoulder of the M6 crying. He thought there was something terribly wrong with me! I had been laughing so much that I could not see and thought it best to pull over before I crashed and ended up face to face with the man himself.

The police officer let me go with the advice 'please do not listen to that while driving again.'

Following this experience I used to plan my week around the radio 4 airing of the next series (then series 3). I would sit happily for 30mins each week listening to this in my car - usually in a ... Read More:

I thoroughly enjoyed The Noel Coward Diaries, edited by Graham Payn and Sheridan Morley and therefore I was looking forward to reading some more of The Master's barbed quips in the book, edited by Barry Day.

In fact, there was much of it that I did enjoy, but I was really not prepared for so many letters written to Coward, as opposed to from him. I really would have preferred the letters to have been in chronological sequence, instead of lumping the correspondence to Gertie Lawrence altogether in one chapter. It is rather confusing when it is not made immediately clear who is sending a letter to whom, especially when nicknames are used to start and/or finish - or indeed, when no reference is made at all.

But this is criticism ... Read More:

I discovered this book whilst trying to find some 'funnies' for a Leavers' service. This book is packed full of amazing poems by such prestigious poets as Pie Corbett and Roger McGough. As with all poetry books, not all of the poems were to my taste; but there were certainly a superb number of very cleverly written verses. As a teacher I will be able to make use of the the poems involving similes, metaphors and kennings, great.

At first I thought this book would be interesting to middle-aged and older women, but then looked inside and was charmed. Although I am only 29, I laughed my way through the whole book. It's full of "that's so true" moments, and the authors manage to tell it all in a funny, self-deprecating manner. I recommend it to every woman out there, regardless of her age.

Charles Nicholl's books about Marlowe and da Vinci have previously graced my reading list: the first is a meticulous reconstruction of Marlowe's final meal in an attempt to explain the playwright's death, which is sometimes a little repetitive; the second a more conventional biography of the renaissance polymath.

The Lodger is closer to the first, in being a depiction of how Shakespeare possibly lived whilst in London, centring on a single event, the signing of a legal deposition by the playwright which concerned his landlord, but fortunately without the repetitiousness.

So little is actually known about the bard that to say it is amazing nobody did this before is an understatement, but it is a tribute to Nicholl that he has picked up ... Read More:
