Ian Beck and Sarah Williams are to be congratulated on creating a series of books and cassettes that are essential for parents of preschoolers. I knew only two or three nursery rhymes before I bought this set and now I not only can sing along to most rhymes, but know enough clapping games and bouncing dances to entertain even the most tearful of babies. The selections are broad and well-organised, but Ride a Cock Horse is particularly good for having a slower, more melodic side that can be played on car journeys to help youngsters calm down and even drop off to sleep. The orchestrations are wonderfully full and sophisticated, making them a delight for adults as well (and easy to listen to when children insist on hearing them over and over again) ... Read More:

Because of its narrative flow it can also be put to music....I've done it many times.... It is without doubt her favorite bedtime story even now....its the perfect 5 to 10 minuter.

This was very popular with both my children at the age of 18 months to 2 years, and I have listened to it many times in the car; the only problem is keeping your hands on the wheel when you are tempted to join in with your child to do the hand actions to the songs! There is a good mix of traditional favourites and newer songs, so much so that I had to go out and buy the book with illustrations on how to do some of them!
