Nozick is the considered the originator of the oxymoronic and totally imaginary 'anarcho capitalist' movement. In practice this is just about the least human, humane and rational school of thought to come out of Enlightenment liberalism. Entirely unworkable and entirely contradictory, the idea that you can have a stateless society yet run things by the market is far more ridiculous than the ideas of actual anarchists like Bakunin and Kropotkin.

Even if all people were born completely equal with exactly the same skills and resources available, as long as the uneven distribution of the market existed then in one generation an elite would form and oppress those who hadn't made it. This is the nature of the market, some win because ... Read More:

This is a rambling, badly organized and poorly written book.
Peston needs a good editor. The editor's first task should be to remove the brackets keys from Peston's typewriter. Then she should remove the dash key. This might help to remove the author's constant temptation to insert long, irrelevant parenthetical remarks that do little more than distract the reader.
Then she should carve up the countless long, rambling sentences and throw out all the quotations that simply repeat what Peston himself has already said.
Better still, she should include a note at the beginning of the book saying, unless you are a masochist, don't bother with this awful tome; read Anthony Seldon's "Blair Unbound" instead.

As usual Jim Marrs digs un all the dirt and forgotten mainstream articles that point to the extreme right-wing tendencies of the American Elite. The first half is a very convincing account of how the Rockefellers and British Aristocrats did everything they could to help HItler to power. They were under the impression that Eugenics (also a Bush family fave) is a good thing and indeed 'esential' for the furure of human evolution and money to be made from banking in a World War was just too good to give up.
It draws upon many years of investigations into especially Prescott and George HW Bush, Henry Kissinger and David Rockfelller. Some would say that these men are agents of the NWO, and that could very well be true. The connections and moneyflows go back ... Read More:

94.The Downing Street Years by: Margaret Thatcher
March 13, 1995
Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Books : The Downing Street Years
This book is one of the most interesting political autobiographies I have read (and I've read many of them). I must confess that interest was intensified due to the fact that I worked in the House of Commons during her tenure in office, and indeed worked during the 1987 General Election for two Conservative Members of Parliament (David Amess of Basildon and David Evennett of Erith & Crayford--yes, I know, you've likely never heard of either of them).

This is actually the first volume of Margaret Thatcher's books to be published; the prequel is 'The Path to Power' and there is a follow-up, 'The Collected Speeches', but for those interested, 'The Downing Street Years' is the book to have.

It begins with the 1979 General Election, and ... Read More:

This text book was recommended to me by my history teacher and it has been very useful as i have covered the 2nd yr of the Italian Unit. All the important aspects of Mussolini's dictatorship are covered well in this book, particularly the economy which i feel can be a difficult area to understand.

I would definately recommend it as a course aid and a good basis for revision, it's well worth the money.

I am from Croatia, a republic of former Yugoslavia. I was engaged in a struggle for a democracy against communist regime in 1980s. The communist party argued that what we had as "socialism", and in particular "self-management" is the best form of democracy. In reality, we understand that it is not true.

David Held's book "Models of Democracy" was translated into Slovenian, one of south-Slavic languages, in a year of the fall of Berlin wall, Jun 1989. Few years later, it was published in Croatian also, with a special preface of D. Held personally.

The book was an excellent reference for all of us, who struggled for democracy, to understand what we are standing for. It is still important today, for we are still at the beginning of struggle for ... Read More:

I hate to disagree with previous reviewers but I found this book to be pretty dreadful.

It is riddled with errors (typos, missing words, nonsense sentences, grammatical errors). Although I didn't count them, I reckon there is an average of one error per page. For me, it meant trying to read the book was irritating.

I have less of a problem with the content although in several places it seems that the author has very little scientific knowledge which makes his explanations poor.

The author also seems to lack any ability to critically appraise any of the "evidence" he presents.

The book would be more credible had it been written by a someone with better scientific knowledge and had a good editor been employed.
