I was fortunate enough to study this text for my undergraduate degree, I am of German decent but ostensibly English. This text gives a documatary insight into the horror suffered by both Slavonic and Germanic peoples alike. If your looking for the entire documents look elsewhere here the authers present only the pertinent information. However do not presume that this leads in any way to a bias on the authers part, in my opinion they present the subject matter in an impartial light, which perhaps heightens the sense of the tragedy which is told within these pages. A word of caution, the description, particularly those provided by medical witnesses is graphic and not undistubing. I would give all of this series 5 stars however, personal ... Read More:

Although only 40 pages long, you get an insight into the way that both Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels felt about the world they lived in and how it could change for the greater good (in their opinion anyway). I do encourage anyone with even a minor interest in European politics, to give this book a try.

Even though I was fascinated by the two authors ideology (Ultimately, the hope that a Proletariat will rise to conquer the all-oppressing Bourgeoise, in every country) I do feel that they did not make clear any kind of policies that they would enforce after they took power. All it seems is that they want to get the oppressers out, but after that they don't seem to know what they want to do (despite destroying any kind of private property ... Read More:

Bradley K. Martin's (BM) book is an excellent and rather detailed report on how North Korea works.

In his preface, the author reminds us of H.G. Wells' Time Machine and there especially the part where mankind has split into the Eloi and the Morlocks and how they control the Eloi. In Wells' book this process takes about 800,000 years. In North Korea this process was reduced to just over 50 years. The rest of the book explains how this transformation came about.

BM starts off with the biography of Kim Il-sung and there draws quite a bit on the dictator's own publications. He follows this up with the Korean War and Kim Il-sung's elimination of all rivals and establishment of a totalitarian state. He then goes through all the aspects ... Read More:

Mutual Aid is a masterpiece of political, sociological, historical, and anthropological work and even zoology. It challenges many common misconceptions about human nature and evolution that are held by the majority of people, previously including myself. The main idea it challenges is that of "SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST" in nature and as a part of human nature and its role in evolution. Peter Kropotkin points out that the struggle for survival is against harsh conditions rather than between inividuals and that the best way for a species to survive is by " Mutual aid and support" rather than "Individualistic struggle" and points to many examples in nature such as migratory birds, ants, bees, monkeys and ultimately humans who survived ... Stuart Christie, more well known for his 'involvement' with the Angry Brigade anarcho/revolutionary movement than his attempt to assinate the reactionary Spanish dictator Franco, is a leftie who walks the walk rather than just talking the talk. Paints a fantastic picture of a working class upbringing in post war Glasgow and his recollections of a lenghty prison stretch in a Madrid jail with other political prisoners of the anti Franco resistance are written with verve, wit and not too much of playing the blame game. Meu culpa. Later life in London, during the time a lot of us on the left thought a workers takeover of the UK economy was on the cards, is a joy to read as is his account of the numerous attempts by the old bill to stitch him up are no surprise to ... Been reading alot about the 2nd world war and this book looked interesting. However it was not that great, no detail and the conclusion is that it is all the elements in the book are unproven and based on hearsay.

Very forgetable.

I had some major troubles with this book. Firstly the writting style is terrible. The repetitiveness is simply annoying. I lost count of the amount of times the author says "magic bullit" for example, although a key point in assessing the Warren report I think it was simply over used. The writting also lacks focus, particularly in the first part of the book, where facts are simply laid down without any real organisation ending up with simply jumping around the evidence rather than having a meticulous describtion of events.

Secondly there are so many glaring omissions of necessary facts that I wonder how anyone can regard this as comprehensive. Notably, as stated, the author repeatedly talks about the "magic bullit" and the need for this theory coming from ... Read More:
