How every you argue it outsourcing will often shrink the pool of potential jobs and total wages more that will be compensated by new jobs. Sennett has done much to offer a critique of today's flexible capitalism. In this work he develops the themes that he identified earlier and observes once again fragmented lives, people who have lost the plot of their own existence and a devouring sense of purposelessness among those who pursue precarious porfolio careers. The book is sadly not up to his earlier work. The stories are cursory and have an almost artificial quality about them (compared to the vivid portraits that he offered in his earlier work). His engagement with contemporary scholarship is very casual and idiosyncratic (especially in his discussions of consumption where major contributions by Ritzer and others are ignored). Finally, the quality of production leaves much to be ... Read More:

Gilpin has written a book that is not full of technical jargon, but is detailed and unpatronising, one that covers every base, but is not overexpansive, and a book that can rightfully take its place on any student's or educated layman's bookshelf. In a world where people demontsrate against the WTO despite knowing little about it, or loudly write the state's obituary but know little about its role in the world economy, or celebrate unconditionally the 'anglo-saxon' market system without ever having glanced at how the Japanese and German system work to good effect, this book is priceless.

Scruton calmly asserts that T.S. Eliot was "indisputably the greatest poet writing in English in the twentieth century." His political philosophy is full of similarly vague, extreme and unsupported assumptions that he expects the reader to accept as a matter of course. For the most part these assumptions are phenomenological (phenomenology being a description of experience) and in many cases it is hard, if not impossible, to agree with, acknowledge, or even to be sympathetic towards those phenomenological accounts.

There also seem to be various contradictions in Scruton's beliefs and 'conclusions' throughout the book: He asserts vigourously that marriage is meaningful because it is a spiritual bond that is not merely founded on raw animalistic ... Read More:

This book is excellent for students studying the Health Sciences. It has concise and relevant information on the background and formation of policy and covers many of the current areas around government developments
for the Healthcare services. It has been updated and is now on the 5th edition so is very timely.

This book was recommended to me as the single best book on this topic by a guy who was speach coach to Bill Clinton! I wasn't disappointed.

It's clearly not a light read but easy enough going and with a very pleasing style. I loved the liberal use of (very UK centric) examples - they really bring what are essentially simple messages to life, i.e.

1. You have to work at keeping the audience's attention
2. There are a few very simple devices that allow you to do this and that naturally prompt applause.

It really isn't rocket science and for public speakers or spechwriters, I would add my recommendation.

A really clear political exposition, which helps provide solid philosophical underpinnings to veganism and a way forward for animal rights' thinking which does not include a lot of "they're-just-like-us-no-they're-not" irrelevancies. Very readable, too! Highly recommended.
