A wonderful and fun introduction to counting for younger children. Done in typical Dr Seuss style - short rhymes, colourful pictures and the added element of a lift flap will make it a favourite. Since I came across this new series about a month ago, my 3yr old has become really interested in these books and wants to read them every day - usually more than once!!

I first borrowed this from the library and then I had to buy it because my 1.5 year old loved it so much! The illustrations are so friendly and colourful. It is a good book for children to develop memory skills as well as learning vocabulary. One of the best features is, however, the durability of the book. The pages and the flaps are cardboard, so little fingers can easily open and turn pages without destroying the book.

My 18 month old boy simply loves the story, in particular the page which describes the actions of Monica when her father finally fulfills her wish of playing with the moon.

My 18 month old loves this book. The flaps are strong and the verse VERY simple. Where's baby's duck? - Here it is! He can't get enough of it. He has plenty to choose from but time and time again he goes for this one.

Coram Boy is set in 18th century England and contrasts lives of the fortunate and unfortunate children of the times. Well written beginning given a horrific picture of child trafficking and murder. Unfortunately it all becomes a bit predictable - abandoned child is reunited with his parents, bad people get their just desserts etc. Not sure which age group this book was aimed at. Concepts such as pregnancy outside marriage, selling of young children into slavery and infanticide suggest it is aimed at 12 - 13 year olds. However the actual writing is very simple and the main boys are aged nine.

We have Sam Ita's Moby Dick and this is just as brilliant. The pop-up engineering is fantastic and infused with detail. Like Moby Dick there are flaps to open, parts that move and things to do making this book a real journey of discovery - take a 3-D look inside Jules Verne's visionary submarine; sit with the sailors at their lobster-laden table; pull a lever to move the diving gauge. The giant squid is a total joy! It's been enjoyed by both my sons, the seven year old loves the artwork, pop-ups and condensed story while the thirteen year old has been inspired to read the original. I think this is a beautiful book for the price and would make a lovely gift, although I can see the appeal might be more for boys. Make sure you give it to someone ... Read More:

My 4 year old is a massive Maisy fan and this is her favourite maisy book. The bold and colourful pictures are ideal for pre-school children and the text is bold and simple, therefore also appropriate for young readers.
