Wow, the detail in the intricate pop up pictures! It is a sheer delight to open and explore each page. You think the pop up in the middle is wonderful, then you discover further pop ups behind the narrative at each side. A beautiful book that any child would love - not to mention the adults!!

My toddler asks for this book every night (he calls it the 'horse' book as the white mice in the story turn into horses for Cinderella's coach.....). He loves the rhymes, the bright colours and he still gets excited by the 'lift the flaps' even though we have read the story again and again...... It's a lovely gentle introduction to a classic story, with a happy ending of course!

A friend sent this from Australia for my two kids aged 5 and 7. With the original novel being a grown-up classic weighing in at over 500 pages, it's a brave move for Sam Ita to condense it into a pop-up graphic novel just eight pages long. However, he pulls it off brilliantly. The pop-up engineering is jaw-dropping. We find ourselves looking at it from many different angles to get every last detail. There are flaps to open, a whirlpool to operate (my kids' favourite part), and a 'close-up' of a little book in a character's hand which you can open and marvel at. My 14 month old insists on having me read him this book every night before he goes to sleep (as well as at other times during the day). The illustrations are colourful, the pop ups imaginative, the story simple and sweet, and the ending perfect for getting him into bed to sleep. I will buy more Poppy Cat books though it looks like this is the only pop up with so many pages. I bought this for a friend since its not my judgement that matters but my son's!
