Gosh, what can i say. When i read this book i was blown away. The amount of fact is remarkable for such a short book. All major events are covered in the punic wars. The book has a tendency to focus on Hannibal and the second war, but that is understandable. The fact that this book is 100% in colour is perfect, and instantly makes for a more enjoyable read. If you just want an overview of the punic wars then this is the book for you. It blends humour and fact very well, which makes you want to read more. All in all a must buy for someone who just wants an introduction to this turbulent era of history (perfect for children as well).

"Before Civilization" is a must for the interested lay reader and for students of archaeology. It explains clearly and simply how radiocarbon dating works and how it came to be used in archaeology. This is a welcome second edition updating the original classic. Finally, what makes this an informative and pleasant read is Colin Renfrew's skill in selecting and developing interesting examples to illustrate the debates and thinking behind the adoption of radiocarbon dating - and the subsequent problems that scientists have had to resolve in order to achieve a reliable independent form of dating!

I am making good progress on the many useful exercises. I bought both editions of the Revised Latin primer and many buyers may wish to know the difference as I was confused which one to buy. This one is the original unabridged edition and I have stuck to it for learning my Latin and have grown quite fond of this book. The other edition at Amazon is the Mountford edition and is the pink cover edition and currently printed in Hong Kong for schools there, this edition has been changed somewhat from the original. This edition (the one with the cover which pictures Benjamin Kennedy as headmaster of Shrewsbury School in 1836) was revised by Kennedy himself three times and first published under the famous green cover, and is the original Latin primer ...
