Sue Gerhardt's style of argument can be summed up as follows. Some of the people with problem A also have B. One possible explanation for B is C. C might be linked to experiences in early years. Therefore problem A is caused by not being loved enough as a baby. This is used to explain every problem from asthma to unemployment. Starting with the simple and uncontroversial point that babies who are cared for tend to do better than babies who are not, Sue Gerhardt's obsession with her view of how mothers should behave towards babies distorts everything from then on. Have had every edition and I still carry a copy in my bag. Anyone doing acute takes who thinks they don't need to reflect on some aspects of some cases will come to grief. I am reassured when I see junior docs carrying a well worn copy.

I really don't know what the people giving one star only to this book are smoking. First things first. If you expect to read this book casually like you would read an easy novel, then this certainly is not the book for you. What Soros is asking from you is to read, take pause, and think. Soros is not only bringing into question the fundamental paradigms about how capitalism works, he is also bringing into question the whole foundation of enlightened Western thinking since the Renaissance. Another reviewer said Soros was delaing in platitudes. Phwa! He obviously skimmed a bit too much... Fairly well written, and as someone who has no prior background in this field, it was easy to understand and descriptive enough to be interesting. it was not too technical that i got bogged down with terms, unlike some other neurology books i've read.

Have suffered from depression for over 30 years on and off! . . I am not sure if a book can help. I have read loads and still find that if I am kind to myself and allow the depression to run its course, don't fight it or hide from it. (AND DON'T FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT.) Then this too will pass. I have been very keen to teach my son the letters of the alphabet but wanted to do it the right way. Having visited his school he will be attending next year, they do follow the Jolly phonics scheme and therefore these books have been great along with the work books. It's given me the confidence to teach and he has enjoyed the colourful pictures and tracing with his finger the letters. We are now moving on to book three after he has managed to read and write the letters in books one and two. Being a working parent and mum to a one year old aswell we are only able to do learning for an hour on a friday so these short to the point books are great. Useful no doubt, plentiful Buffett words of wisdom: I particularly like the stories and sayings he uses to explain a point in simple 'relatable' terms for the reader. However, there is another reviewer who commented that the book's editing is really rubbish. I agree. The arrangement seems a bit arbitrary and I'm not sure exactly what the author is taking credit for, since he doesn't seem to have contributed anything to the content (except the intro). I love it! The children in my class love it! It is full of literacy starters and games to get children thinking. It fits really well with the Ros Wilson 2020 / Big Writing and the Literacy Hour. I wouldn't be without it.

As the review title says, this is an essential reference tome for any bodybuilder's bookshelf. Unlike most other bodybuilding books, this one doesn't feature photographs of famous people, with physiques the typical reader is unlikely to ever achieve, competing at this-or-that competition. Nor are there are suggestions for workout routines, nutrition etc. Therein lies much of its appeal. Delavier instead gives us detailed anatomical drawings, much like you might find in a medical textbook, and I imagine this broadens its appeal to include those sports people who view weight training as an adjunct to their other training rather than as an end in itself.
