The title of this book may lead you to believe the author to be of a strict and dominating character in the class room. This perception is wrong. Instead you can find a calm 'firm but fun' attitude to behavoirable management and teaching in general. I would definately guess Ms Cowley to be an english teacher and describes lesson plans for conceptual subjects; the arts. The book explains throughly ideas and tips for getting a student's attention and respect though uses a possibly naieve view of the average student. I guess I'm one of those people that likes to understand the how and why of everything I do. Therefore, whenever I workout, I find myself wondering about the purpose of each particular exercise. Am I actually working, strengthen, or stretching my muscles in a way that is beneficial to my body or am I just wasting my time? Am I doing the exercises correctly or am I setting myself up for an injury? Perhaps that's why I love the Anatomy series from Human Kinetics. Having for the last two years been a student of the integrative approach with an emphasis on the humanistic paradigm, I was fascinated by Roger's own journey and reasoning behind his Core Conditions as well as his presentation of the humanistic paradigm in its original form. My only criticisms of this book are it's repetitiveness (better editing required in bringing together the constituent papers) and it's verbosity, which only serves to obfuscate the subject matter.

I found this really helpful towards the new PTLLS teaching qualification, as well as giving me all the basic teaching tools I needed to start my career. A comprehensive index enabled me to locate all aspects I needed quickly. It's written in an easy to read format, with useful examples, great lists, and realistic activities which are relevant to teaching. I will keep it as a reference book as I progress through the teaching qualifications.

The clear pictures and easy to follow step by step guides were extremely helpful when it came to taking my C&G 2330 Level 3 practical exams. The section on completion of test certificates was particularly good, putting everything into plain language. I would recommend this book to any trainee electrician.

Clear and concise without being condescending but not so dry the Sahara is a water-sports marina in comparison. Norman Doidge grips the reader's interest as he takes us back to the diastrous ideaology - soon medical orthodoxy - of the brain as a rigid inflexible computer and how pioneering scientists - often persecuted and ridiculed for ignoring the "accepted majority" - showed that the human brain is a marvellous creation superior to pretty much anything on the planet.
