Years of experience writing for the FT definitely makes Philip Coggan an authoritative voice on the way the city works...

A great overview of the London market, and the development of the various different financial and investment instruments/products that exist within the city.

A recommended read for anybody seeking to extend their knowledge of the London financial market.

This is very general book with several general strategies how to trade, but definitely not enough to be a good trader. I can recommend another one "Forex Patterns and Probabilities" which is way better.

In his book `Hot Commodities", Jim Rogers gives us an account why he thinks investors should stop ignoring commodities as these potentially offer a better rate of return than running after stocks, bonds, real estate, some currencies or timber (that's an interesting one).

The first four chapters of the book give you the nuts and bolts of investing in commodities accompanied by plenty of anecdotes from Rogers' own investment activities. Of this first half of the book, chapter 4 is by far the most important. You need to know this information inside out, otherwise there is little point in investing in the futures market.

In the second part of the book - chapters five to the end - Rogers explains why China is likely to drive ... Read More:

I started reading Bets in the City the same time I started my adventure into the world of Forex. Forex is a serious business but the book helped me keep my sense of humour, get over my losses and to keep trading. Not only is it a hilarious book but you learn so much without realising you are learning. I do hope Sally brings out a sequel.

This is a fascinating book about a fascinating man. Read though if you want to understand about what made this man great not whether micro loans really are the best way to assist the poor in mainly third world countries. We all know that it is usually what's not in an autobiography that is really worth knowing not what has been included. This book contains no mention of the critics of micro loans or any of its disadvantages. It gives the reader the view that micro loans are the answer to eradicating world poverty. It may be an important part of the answer but it clearly doesn't stand alone in the fight today to make sure everyone enjoys at least a reasonable standard of living.
Yunus exposed the banking myth that only loans to the rich backed ... Read More:

One of the most difficult tasks for a writer of DIY and LIY books is conveying complex processes is easy to understand language. Michael Durbin has successfully acheived this; explaining the fundamentals of derivatives in concise laymens terminology with myriad of analogies and examples. As a business analyst working with both IT and IR derivatives trader, I have found this book to be the best I have read so far. The book provides the reader with a solid platform from which to delve into more complex mathematically-based books such as Hull and Fabozzi. Thoroughly recommended for the derivatives beginner or for those seeking a high level understanding of the complex derivatives world.

This is a delightful and eminently readable history of probability and its applications, written by someone with a professional interest in, and an evident love for, his subject. Seasoned with anecdotes and asides, it was an education and a pleasure to read this account of a topic which enters into so many aspects of our lives, actuarial, economic or philosophical.

I think that Van Tharps' work is essential reading whatever your level of trading, whether you are a pro or not. Some of the parts of the book are a little hard going, but in my opinion this book contains a ton of material that will positively impact your bottom line in a mesurable and positive way. Definitely one for your trading library.
