Kaplan and Norton co-authored an article which was published in the Harvard Business Review (January/February 1992). In it they introduce an exciting new concept: the balanced scorecard. They have since published three books: this one, preceded by The Balanced Scorecard: Translating Strategy into Action (1996) and The Strategy-Focused Organization: How Balanced Scorecard Companies Thrive in the New Business Environment (2000). Here's some background on the two books before we shift our attention to Strategy Maps.

In The Balanced Scorecard, as Kaplan and Norton explain in their Preface, "the Balanced Scorecard evolved from an improved measurement system to an improved management system." The distinction is critically important ... Read More:

103.Trading in the Zone by: Mark Douglas

Books : Trading in the Zone
I found the first half of this book rather disappointing in the same way as I found The Disciplined Trader: Developing Winning Attitudes disappointing. Too many babbling chapters that boil down to a simple point like "don't fight the market". Too much dodgy pseudo-science about negatively- and positively-charged energy, and too much reliance on non-trading analogies.

The book really redeemed itself in the later chapters with its points about thinking purely in terms of probabilities, expecting the unexpected (see also The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable), and accepting that you are fallible (see Soros).

This book will not give you a concrete strategy for beating the markets, except possibly this one: Approach trading ... Read More:

I found this book after searching long and hard for some information about financial instruments in general. Having heard some of the terms described in the book, I was at a loss to know what the heck they were used for. For example SWAPS and Repos where terms I had heard in the financial media but had no idea why they would be used. This book answered my questions and more. It also placed the financial markets into a global context, as the markets are truely world-wide. Thankfully, for me anyway, there are no complex formulae or mathematical terms in the book. It is an "Introduction", therefore high level. Having said that, it still takes some time to put the pieces together, but that is not the fault of the author. Financial markets are complex and hence difficult ... Read More:

If you are expecting to learn how to make quick money from the stock market by reading this book, you'll be, without doubt, disappointed. It is, however, one of the best books to help develop sound and solid knowledge about surviving the stock market and making uncommon profits in the long run.

In order to grasp the general picture of the messages from the author, I rushed it through the first time I read it. And I have got a strong feeling that it pays to read this book from cover to cover. Now, I am about to read it the second time slowly, page by page.

Warren Buffett has scarcely recommended books about the stock market. This book is one of the exceptions. I am a follower of Buffett's philosophy, so I have no qualms at all about recommending this ... Read More:

In 2001, I was working for an investment bank in London where I was trying to come up with a consistent framework for my Excel models as applied to everyday corporate finance issues. My boss showed me this book he'd recently purchased in the High Street that set out a standardised methodology for developing models and unleashing the power of Excel. This book was Day's first edition and I had to have it but for some reason it slipped off my book purchase list. Try as I might, I was unable to find a copy these last six years (mainly because I'd forgotten the title & author!!).

Anyhow, I finally tracked the book down (completely by accident) together with its counterpart "Mastering Financial Mathematics" recently on a trip back to London. This book is great for those seeking to ... Read More:

This text is a must have for students studying Market Research, well laid out and easy to read. One of the few text books I go back to again and again.

I purchased mine for studying the MRS Diploma, and I found it useful for most, if not all, of the units.
